Hi Everyone.
My name is Matilda and I am the creator of this group. I created this group as I found that there were loads of running groups but for specific things. Like c25k, or location groups.
Which is all well and good, but what's the point of joining a zillion groups when you want general info.
Hence why I created this group.
So whether you are just starting out running, or your a marathon veteran. It doesn't matter, what matters is that we all have a love of running.
So a bit about me.
I'm a single mum of 2 kids. Master M is 3, and Miss K is 5 (hence mmk).
I live in a country town in Australia.
I have my 1st 5km race on 1st April.
Looking forward to getting to know you all, to ask questions and to get answers and advice.

Hello!
I am 288lbs and always been a big girl. I remember as a child wanting to run and know what it feels like to have the wind whisking around me. I was always told I couldn't run because it would do more damage than good but watching the biggest loser has proven that wrong. I WANT TO RUN AND BE A RUNNER!! I was sure hoping on this weight loss adventure someone on here could start schooling me on how to run.0 -
Hi!
My name is Crystal and I live in Missouri, USA. I'm currently in Week 4 of the Couch to 5k program. I am already signed up for several 5ks, 2 in April, and 1 in August. The one is August is the one I"m most excited about. It is called Run for your Lives, a zombie 5k and obstacle course!!! Look it up, watch some videos, I'm super psyched! I consider myself in training now. Not only am I running, but I lift also. I want to be able to achieve an obstacle they throw at us so I'm trying to have a really well rounded fitness program.
I have lost 50 pounds so far, and want to lose about 20 more.0 -

The most important thing, IMO, is shoes!!!! I tried running at the beginning of my weight loss journey but didn't properly equip my feet and with in a week, I was dying from pain. It will be an investment, but very important one. Also, I really like the Couch to 5k program. I feel it really eases you into it and you can repeat any weeks you feel you didn't achieve. Good luck!0 -
Hullo everybody! I just joined this group because I LOVE to run! I started out with the C25K program, but now I pretty much just freestyle. I run wearing Saucony Kinvaras which I LOVE, they are so lightweight and comfortable! I am running my first 5K on April 14th for Relay for Life, and then I have another to run in August, Run for Your Lives which will be AMAZING (being chased by zombies=very motivating). If you have an iPhone I highly recommend an app called Zombies, Run! It's a little pricey ($7.99) but well worth it! You get missions and have a storyline all while you are running! The story is set in the post Zombie Apocalypse era and you'd be surprised how quick you can get your feet moving when you hear zombies moaning in your ears and someone yelling at you to RUN!!0

Hello! I am a 22 y/o mother of two boys (ages: 3yrs / 20 months). I am active duty military, so I am forced to run 5 days a week. I have always pretty much hated running, but recently, I find myself actually enjoying it. Im sure I will enjoy it more as I lose more weight, but for now, I guess you could say "running" and I are on speaking terms.0

Hey Everyone! I'm Amanda and I got into running about 6 months ago and just joined MyFitnessPal, I ran my first 5k thanksgiving of 2010 and it went horribly and I gave up running (after not really putting in the time or effort). 6 months ago I picked it up again with a different mindset. I ran a 4 mile race Nov 2011 and in 2012 I've ran Four 5k's. My last 2 were both under 30 mins. I have 5k's, 5 milers, and 10k's all planned for each month for the rest of the year. As well as some obstacle course 5k's like warrior dash. I've been at a stand still with my weight the last month and am hoping to take my running as well as strength training to the next level. Hopefully with a group I can find that extra motivation I need to get out and run even when I'm not feeling it that day!!
I look forward to chatting with you all!!0 -

Hello!
I used to be a runner - and want to turn that statement back into 'I am a runner'. I was fit, healthy and happy but - after shin splints and then a shoulder injury stopped me running - I've never really bounced back. It's been three or four years since I took diet and exercise seriously and I've put on about a stone for each of those years. *Sigh!*
I've constantly stopped and started diets and fitness plans, but a friend suggested that I give My Fitness Pal a try. So, today after I'd completed the first session in a 5k training plan, I signed up.
It's a start, right?0 -

hi and welcome.
mfp is a great start.
what made you decide to start up running again? just because you want to be a runner again.
Either way, you'll get enjoyment out of it.
feel free to add me if you would like some support.0 -
Have a day off work today, so I've been hunting around MFP, and I'm so excited to have found this. I was an an avid (thought slow) runner until I had my daughter almost 6 years ago. Between being pregnant, having a baby, getting divorced, and moving on with my life, running fell out of my daily schedule. I'm happy to say that my life has stabilized (getting married in September), and unhappy to stay that my weight has also stabilized (about 75 pounds too high). I'm very, very excited to be getting back into running. I've been doing walk/run intervals for the past three weeks, and yesterday I ran my "first" mile without stopping...it took 12 minutes, but I still did it! I'm looking for support and encouragement to help increase my speed and endurance, and I'd love to help encourage others along the way!0

Thanks for the welcome! I'll send you a request now!
I decided to start running again because I miss it. It's that simple. I loved the freedom of running - though I must admit to liking it more when I lived near the coast. I also love that it makes me feel strong and capable. For me, losing the weight isn't just about looking better - I really want to feel fit and healthy again.0 -

I sometimes think that coming back to running is more difficult than starting out because I'm constantly measuring myself against the times and distances that I used to be and feel unfit in comparison. I'm trying really hard to remind myself that it's just important to keep trying - and that we're running laps around the people who are sat at home on their couch.
Congratulations on the marriage in September x0 -
Hello everyone! I am currently a student. I started running about 2 years ago. I started with my puppy but she quickly quit running when I stopped needing walking breaks and started going faster and farther. I am training for my 2nd half marathon on May 27. I like the 1/2 distance and training isn't overly time consuming. I hope to one day run a full marathon but for right now I am happy with the half distance.0

hi shannon welcome.
how exciting a half marathon. where are you going to run it?
I plan on doing a half marathon, but not until october, still working up my longer distances.0 -
HI Amanda !
Just wondering if you run outside or on a treadmill. I find that running outside I tend to lose my pace and run slower than my treadmill.
I ran for quite a few years and got lazy this last winter. I am however back in the game and hoping to run my first 5K on Mothers day.

Hello,
My name is Gaby and I live in Mexico, I started running almost four years ago, just after my 40 birthday, It really changed my life, for me it is the best way of maintaining weight. My longest distance was a half marathon on April 11, and this year I could not do it because of an injury, however I run-jogg 6-8 km four times a week, some Sundays I get to run 10 k. My husband became my running companion for Sundays just last year and sometimes my two sons attend races too, then now it is a family business0 -
HI Gaby, welcome to the group.
How fantastic to have a family of runners.0 -
Hi All,
I just joined the MFP forums and found this group. I feel like I hit a gold mine!
I'm 28, and have been routinely running for 8 weeks now. I've got my first 10k in just one month, and the big goal : Nike Womens Marathon in just under 6 months! I'm using running as my catalyst to help me lose weight and so happy to find others like me. I've got a pretty solid running schedule and feel like this is just what I needed to help me lose the pounds.0 -
I Know someone who is doing the nike womens' marathon as well. She wanted to do the ny marathon, but didn't get in this year, but she has a guarantee for next year (as she has applied 3 times already).
Sounds exciting.
So welcome Valerie, and good look with your training, have fun0
