So, I'm pregnant...

I just found out yesterday. I am almost 6 weeks in. I am type 2 diabetic. This is my third baby in three years!!!! 2/2009, and 4/2010 and now 11/2012. What am I supposed to do now. I weighed 301 at my last weigh in. I am still exercising. I still want to lose weight, I weighed 50 pounds less at the beginning of both previous pregnancies. I am just kinda freaking out!!!!

Just make sure you are eating the right kinds of foods and a bit more to keep your calories higher and keep checking your blood, see a dietician they can help, talk to your OB, Make sure they have you see a high risk specialist. And walk when you can!

Congrats and GL! I don't have diabetes and didn't get gestational diabetes, but I was about 305 when I got pregnant with my last son. I managed to only gain the baby weight because of the dietician giving me a lot of great tips.

    All fabulous tips!

Congratulations! A baby at any time is a blessing but I understand your feelings! I was just under 300 when I got pregnant with my last child. Of course the wicked bad morning sickness "helped" by making me drop about 25lbs real quick!

All in all, I didn't really gain much and never regained the weight I lost in the beginning, and the doc said that was okay.

Did you gain much weight during your previous pregnancies?

I also had 3 kids in 3 years...the first couple of months are still a blur! But being so close in age they really get along well.

    Congrats again!
  • Thanks Ladies! I gained negative 5 pounds with my first. I gained 50 with my second! I have been trying to lose that 50 since January. I was type 2 with the other pregnancies so I am familiar with dietary whatnot. I am in better shape this time around. I will continue to exercise and hope that I don't gain a lot.

    Thanks again!

oh my gosh, congrats!! i'm so happy for you. !!!!!!!

Not sure what kinds of food you have been eating while dieting, but I suppose your eating plan is now 'super healthy'. Ask your doc about what type of exercise is okay and not okay. You can probably still eat at a calorie deficit but maybe not a 2lb a week deficit. I bet you can still lose weight, though the little one will counteract that for you as he/she grows.

Keep us updated on your pregnancy.
  • Thanks!!!!

Right now I have to pretty much completely avoid carbs to ensure my blood sugar stays below 120. This is not an easy thing for me. I may be able to have up to 20 grams a day which is not much. I will talk to my docs about what activity I can and can't do. I have been walking around 5 miles a day for almost the whole month of March. I did notice some swelling today in my left ankle so I have to talk to my doc about that too! I will keep you all updated. I am a huge fan of this whole MFP thing. It's nice to know I'm not alone!

Calorie deficit will happen on it's own b/c of the carbs. I feel like I ate a ton today and it was only 1500 calories!

    Congrats to you! How exciting!
I have many friends that have continued to exercise, weights and all, up until just days before having the baby. If you have been walking all this time, Im sure it will be great to continue, with your doctors permission of course.

Ok so my daughter deleted my response so let see if I remember what I wanted to say. I worked out till my 7th month of pregnancy and when they forced me to stop I walked. Eating was my biggest problem because of cravings and a lot of things made me sick to my stomach but I ate lots of salads and fruits and I drank crap loads of water. I weight 315 at my 6 week appt after birth and when I found out I was pregnant I was 323.

    Oh I also breastfed

20 carbs a day sounds really low to me even for type 2 diabetes. This is a good article I found on webmd. http://diabetes.webmd.com/eating-right titled A Healthy Type 2 Diabetes Diet. Suggestion of talking to dietician is a great one.

Congrats on your pregnancy I wish you the best!!
