How to check body fat %

Hello. I was wondering how acurate are the body fat monitors you can buy at the store? I dont go to a gym and I dont go to the doctor regularly since I dont have insurance. But I found some that are scales that measure and save the body fat % info and I found another that is a hand held one. Do you guys think these will work? Or is there another way to figure body fat %? Thanks for the help.
