Hello and welcome to the first ever Lucy Monroe Reader Fitness Challenge!
I am absolutely thrilled by the level of participation in my debut challenge and applaud each and every one of you for making a decision to move toward health and fitness in your lives.
The challenge will run a full 12 weeks from April 1 to June 23rd and I have outlined the pertinent details below. PLEASE read this email carefully and completely both for your benefit and mine.
ONGOING ENCOURAGEMENT: There will *not* be frequent emails, reminding you of the terms of the challenge. However, I will be posting daily tips to my Facebook group page: http://www.facebook.com/LucyMonroe.Romance and weekly blogs on fitness to my blog: http://lucymonroeblog.blogspot.com/ as well as topics to the LMRFC Group page on MFP: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/4145-lucy-monroe-reader-fitness-challenge. In addition, Debra Parmley, one of the Team Captains, will be posting weekly blogs about fitness and health on her homepage: http://www.debraparmley.com/. She currently has an excellent article on Eating to Lose Weight posted.
COMPETITION CATEGORIES & PRIZES: We have enough entrants to split you all into weight categories for 1st Runner Up, 2nd & 3rd Place prizes. In the interest of maintaining your privacy, when winners are announced, we will do so by saying Suzi Q. Fit won 1st Runner Up in her category, but not what that category is. For your information, the categories are (as stated on the RFC page) original weights of 250 lbs plus, 200 to 249.9 lbs & 199.9 lbs or less.
This means there will be ONE Grand Prize winner, NINE other weight loss winners and ONE inches lost winner. As stated on the website, if an entrant wins in both weight lost and inches lost, she will be given the premium prize between the two and the next runner up will be assigned her place in the other category.

Weekly prize drawing winners will be announced on my blog, FB and the group page on MFP. Since I have your mailing addresses from the registration forms, you will not be contacted directly as your prize will simply be shipped to the address provided.
*Lucy Monroe and her affiliates, the sponsors and team captains cannot be held liable for prizes being lost in transit or not reaching their destination. We are very sorry, but should this occur, no substitute or make-up prizes will be shipped.
International winners will be shipped their prizes like all entrants. However, because DVDs do not share formats across borders, if an international entrant is chosen as the winner of a fitness DVD from Lucy Monroe, s/he *will* be contacted in order to determine the Zone s/he lives in for the DVD's format. If possible, Lucy will buy the DVD from Amazon at that time and have it shipped directly to the winner.
BEFORE & AFTER PICTURES & GRAND PRIZE ELIGIBILITY: I will only need your pictures if you win the Grand Prize of the competition with most overall weight lost.
To be eligible for the grand prize Nook Simple Touch, the winner must provide anORIGINAL and UNEDITED full body "before" picture (taken no earlier than Feb 1, 2012) and "after" picture (taken no later than June 25, 2012), both of which must be emailed to Lucy Monroe no later than June 26, 2012. If she does not receive the winner's photos by June 26, the next runner up will take his/her place.
While I prefer not to have to outline the following and am fully confident it won't come up, my lawyer insists that I do so: If there is *any* question as to the veracity of the weight loss claim of the winner or the authenticity of her pictures, supporting documentation will be required that may include, but is not limited to official weight records from certified health and/or fitness professionals.
MYFITNESSPAL TEAMS: Your coaches are geared up and raring to go. These amazing women have already committed to you and to the challenge and I hope you will return their commitment by giving yourself the gift of getting fit and moving toward a healthier lifestyle.
A couple of you have sent invalid MFP IDs and you have been contacted. If you provide valid IDs prior to April 5, you can still be assigned to a Reader Fitness Challenge team and be eligible for the additional prize drawings I will hold weekly for those actively participating on a team.
If you signed up for MFP and included your ID with your registration and have not yet heard from your Team Captain, please contact me immediately. If you wish to be on a team or are having trouble with creating your MFP account, please contact me as well.
It looks like the Team Captains are putting something together (something of a side bet amongst themselves based on their teams' performances with proceeds going to a charity of the winning team's choice with a matching donation by Lucy of up to $80) and I'm sure they'll be giving you the skinny on that soon.
WEIGHING IN: Numerous studies done by organizations like Weight Watchers, Nutrisystems and the Mayo Clinic have shown that weighing once a week when changing our eating and exercise habits for the better has a more efficacious effect on weight loss and even mental health during the process.
Because of this, I strongly recommend weighing once a week and ask that during the 12 weeks of the challenge you limit yourself to posting your weight loss on weigh-in day. Your team can choose which day they would rather weigh in, Friday or Monday, but I would ask that once the weigh in day has been chosen, you all stick to it for the remainder of the challenge.
I understand the desire to weigh yourselves more frequently. My husband is compulsive about it and weighs daily. Just, please for the duration of the challenge, try to remain consistent at least in posting your weight loss, even if you're having an illicit affair with scale between times. ;-)
