Hello from Scotland, where there's no such thing as trespassing. Just so long as you don't bother the livestock or trample crops, you can go anywhere you like. And I like to go on long day hikes. I'd love to do a longer, backpacking trek, but that's not really feasible in my current lifestyle.
I'm in the Western Highlands, so I walk straight out the door, cross the road, and I'm hiking through the hills and glens. It's the best exercise I know: it never gets boring, you can really get a work-out climbing hills, and you can pick what and where you want to do.
