allergic reaction

Hey all,
I've been eating paleo for a while and I really enjoy it.
Last night I went out for supper with a friend, greek food, so I did eat wheat and dairy products along with a sugary dessert.
I woke up this morning with very puffy eyes and a gooey throat.
Has anybody experienced the same reaction after consuming wheat/dairy for the first time in a while?

Absolutely.. in fact you are the lucky one with the inflammatory response...
I get bleeding kankar sores all over my lips...in addition to what you have.
For me its better to do all the cooking at home and only dine in restaurants that will accomodate my food restrictions. The one thing that stands out is when people cook a meal that I try. No matter how many questions I ask on how they prepared it, it never fails: they have used something that I get a reaction to.0 -
Wow I'm sorry to hear that! Do you know if you are allergic to something specifically? Gluten? Dairy?0

I cannot metabolize simple sugars - that means potatoes, rice, pasta, corn, breads/flour... they are high glycemic foods. I cant even eat the low-carb pastas out there because the carb counts are WAY TOO high.... and thats fine by me.
The insulin spikes that happen create a problem for me to metabolize those foods.. so, not only does my body flood with insulin (IR), but my body cant digest those foods.
Bleeding kankar sores of the mouth and lips. Excessive bloating, skin rashes, indigestion, pancreatic-related pain due to insulin overproduction, etc.... Yeah, it aint fun.
When I dropped those foods I listed since last July 2011, my bloodwork came back gorgeous!!!!!!!!! Overall my total cholesterol count went from 252 to 117!!!! My A1C was over 11. Its now down to 5.1/5.2 (I need to read my labs again, its one or the other I cant remember). I totally OBLIVIATED the changes of having diabetes all through proper prescription medications and proper eating habits.. no junk, no processed, no prepackaged, no soda....
When people tell me moderation is the key, I often wish I could smack it out of them. Moderation does NOT and will NOT ever apply because of the treatments Im receiving and the Rx's and OTC's Im taking.
Ive dropped alot of weight just by diet and exercise. Yeah, I do truly enjoy the high fats every now and then but they come from healthy fats. Mushrooms and onions sauteed in real butter.. MY GAWD, I lose consciousness over the beauty of the real-thing. And, it has done me well.
My endocrinologist sees everything I eat, the portions, the exercise, etc. She recommended MFP to begin with.. So I print out the reports, the logs and she reviews... She 100% supports what I have consumed. In fact, she has been jealous because I spent a good many years working as a chef so cooking fresh foods is not only very easy, but some of the dishes she wants recipes to try! BWAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA

100-120g of carbs per day from healthy foods (vegetables and berries only from the fruit group)
1830 calories per day when I exercise
1600 calories on days I dont exercise
I make sure my protein and fat counts DO go over the maximum so long as they are from real food sources.
Im also allowed the occasional alcoholic beverage so long as I have enough in my daily intake. I never have a problem accomodating my Margarita fix or ice cold beer every now and then! LOL!
but, Im excellent with water intake... Half gallon in the morning until noon. Refill and continue until I get home0 -
Oh wow great for you!
Thank you very much, very interesting, and I'm happy to hear you found what works for you!
I love love love mushrooms and onions sauteed in real butter and garlic, I could live off of that alone! Pour it over pork loin or a chicken breast and I'm in heaven!0 -
