Hey Out-Fit-ers!
( we are seeking our "new outift" as we become Fit For Purpose. It will not look the same as unfit for purpose)

I have heard the following verse many times, but since I started seeking God in this new effort, I have a new revelation for it,.

For we walk by faith, not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7 NJKV).

Our eyes cannot always be trusted. Eve revealed this to us when she is tempted in the Garden of Eden. Her eyes see a juicy fruit, which some believe was an apple, on the tree of knowledge. Her eyes were the window to her downfall, which introduced sin to the world. Prior to this, the Garden of Eden had perfect holiness. She was tempted and and believed she needed this fruit, in spite of what she knew on the instructons to not eat of this forbidden tree.

Our eyes "lie" to us about food. We see things that we think we need, we see things that look tastey, so our stomach and tastebuds begin to crave them. If we didn't have knowledge about what harms us, I can understand making this mistake. However, once we have knowledge about what we need to eat for proper nutrition, we should eat right because we want to and not because we have to. We are like Eve. God has told us what we need to do, but our "eyes" lead us astray. He does not want us to over indulge in anything. We have to have control over our fleshy desires and our will.

Also, most of the time, our eyes are bigger then our stomachs. If you struggle with portions, try eating half as much as what your "eyes" are telling you to eat. Wait a few minutes to let this food digest. This helps you find the point at which you are NOT FULL but at the same time you ARE NOT HUNGRY. Don't eat to get full. Eat until you are not hungry. Let's go back to the car analogy from lesson 1. Do you fill up your car every time you need gas, or do you fill it up according to your budget? I drive a Chevy Avalanche. It drives just as good on half a tank as it does on a full tank. As long as it is not empty, I am good to go. If I am 3/4 full, I can drive until I get close to empty and refuel. There is no need for me to put all my money in the fuel tank if I don't have to. When I see a gas pump, I don't get tempted to get a full tank, unless the price is right, which is hard to find these days. I get enough to get me back and forth to work for a week, at a minimum. If I need more, I can always go back to the gas station. This is the same with food. Don't fill your plate up from the start. Eat in small portions. If you are hungry again in a few hours, eat again, but eat the right thing (Premium Fuel) and not "watered down" fuel that doesn't have good nutrional value.

So let's allow our faith in God's will, and not our will, to be our vision. We cannot always rely on "our sight" . Our sight will sometimes lead us to a decision driven by temptation. Our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, such as temptations of greed, over eating or under eating driven by stress, anxiety, depression, low self esteem, insecuriities and other negative forces set up to destroy us.

Keep in mind that it's not just our sight that is the window to temptation. All of our senses must be kept under control. I can smell an apple pie cooking and my mind will tell me that I desire it, I can taste a chocolate chip cookie and choose to over indulge, I can hear my husband banging pots and pans in the kitchen and become hungry. Or, I can touch and feel an ice cold soda and want to drink more than my share. In all these instances WALK BY FAITH AND NOT BY SIGHT (AS WELL AS ALL OTHER SENSES) THEY MAY LIE TO YOU. When you detect you are being tempted and you are at the point of overindulging, at that instant, ask the Holy Spirit to bring you victory over that moment. Take control of your will. Once the thought to overindulge is planted in your mind, raise up your righteous will, which is the holy spirit. You are a living sacrifice, meaing you can sacrifce your will for God's will.
