Personal Justification for low-carb

So I just had a higher than normal (for me) carb lunch - 15 carbs - 10 net - and it should have been more than satisfactory - but I feel like I want more. That doesn't normally happen. I blame it on the fact that most meals for me have less than 5-6 net.

I had a bell pepper (3 net carbs) stuffed with 4 oz ground pork, browned and then seasoned with 1/8 cup no sugar added Hunts pasta sauce (1 net carb), and 3/4 tsp of minced garlic (1 net carb), topped with 1/2 oz of mild cheddar cheese; and a big spinach (1 net carb) salad with a couple of grape tomatoes (2.5 net carbs) and mushrooms (.5 net carbs), and 2 tbsp of Hidden Valley Ranch bacon-ranch dressing (1 net carb). 560 calories total and something like 43 grams of fat - should have been plenty right?? Especially since I had a good breakfast!

Since it's entirely mental, I shall drown the feelings with more water. (And I shall slosh to the bathroom all afternoon).

Just wanted to share. If I ever doubted the reality of how low-carb keeps you feeling fuller longer, this sorta proves it to myself.

    Susannachcooks,

I too am adjusting to low carb. I was put on this diet by my Dr. She diagnosed me with PCOS. It is an adjustment. Even the first week I still needed my carbs to fill full but now it is getting a little better. I do believe that all bodies are different. But I also know that I am taking in more carbs than you so that could be the difference as well. My breakfast is generally low carb all the way. I usually get my carbs in at lunch. That's when I take in 30-60 carbs, regular carbs, I don't take a count of net carbs. My dinner is usually less carbs than lunch but still in the 30-60 range. At least that's the way it has been for this week. But then again it's only week 2.

I try to stay around 50 Net carbs and now that I have been doing that for a few weeks, I dont feel hungry. Ever. There are times when I have to make myself eat because I dont feel good rather than being hungry. I have PCOS also and I am insulin resistant so I have to stick to around 50 carbs per day. I am thinking about ditching the "Net Carbs" though because my weight loss has stalled out this week. I always make sure to have a large portion of fat/protein if I am going to have a higher than normal carb meal. This seems to help keep the "I want more" monster away.

Could be a myriad of different reasons, not necessarily the number of carbs. Were there any artificial sweeteners in the pasta sauce? Was there MSG or high fructose corn syrup in the ranch dressing (BW3's ranch contains MSG!)? Did you have a particularly hard workout the day before? These are some triggers that I know affect me, though the amounts you had weren't that much.
