I have been on Armour Thyroid for the last year. Once on it, I felt a lot better, but I still wasn't losing weight. I told my doctor so he increased my dosage and once he did, I dropped 11 pounds in the first month. I had lost 23 pounds total by my March doctor's appt and according to my lab results he had to decrease my dosage. And now here I am, 6 months into my new fitness and diet regimen and I lost a total of 24lbs, 4 inches off my waist and dropped 3 pants sizes.

I'm hoping that this will give hope to those struggling with weight loss while having hypo. In my case, it was a matter of being switched to Armour and getting the dosage correct in order for me to even start to lose weight. I'm sure for those battling weight loss, you can discuss with your doctor your options. If you need or want support, feel free to add me! I'm open to new MFP friends. We're all in this together.

My Stats:
Height: 5'0"
SW: 167lbs
CW: 143lbs
GW: 125lbs

*above pic - left side was actually taken when I was 153lbs and right side is current at 143lbs

I am on amour thyroid as well... May I ask how much you take? Do you just get it filled at the pharmacist?

I have been on it less then a year, but I have also been struggling with ibs/gluten issues...

I take 90mg from the pharmacist. I read somewhere that it is better to take it three times daily in smaller doses, I was going to ask my doctor when I got back in 2 weeks.

Great job! I will be asking my Dr. about this, since I haven't started anything yet. Is it expensive?

When my doc increased my dosage, I was on 90mcg M-W-F and 60mcg all the other days. I do get it filled at the pharmacy.

I also take Blood Sugar Support supplement pills twice a day 30 minutes before breakfast and lunch. I'm thinking the supplements were a result of my pre-diabetic diagnosis when I was heavier.

not sure how much my health insurance covers, but I pay $12/month for a 30 day supply. 60mcg a day.

thank you everyone for the support! Not sure if it's the meds or the feeling of actually losing weight that is making me so happy. But my confidence has shot through the roof. I feel so much better about myself. my primary physician didn't work with me one bit and I was on levoxyl for 1 1/2 years before realizing that it wasn't helping with my weight loss let alone my hypo symptoms. I was always still down in the dumps. Thank goodness my friend recommended me to his doctor and that my insurance covers it. Here's to hoping for everyone else!

Armour is not expensive - my insurance covers it -- I think it was $19 for 90 days worth. But some pharmacies run out!!

    hey everyone,
here's an update. I haven't lost any more weight as I started strength training so I'm thinking I'm starting to develop more muscle mass. I'm hoping that eventually more pounds will start to melt. But I did measure my waist today. As of today I'm at a 29" waist. I started at 34" six months ago. Still got a lot of toning to do, but here's to hoping!

Thanks again for all your support.
