Challenge: Drink a minimum of 64 ounces of water 6 of 7 days this week!

How much water should you drink? 64 ounces a day, minimum. Work towards drinking 1/2 your weight in pounds as ounces of water (a 150 pound person should aim for 75 ounces of water). If you weigh less than 128, drink the 64 ounces.

What are the benefits of drinking so much water? Well, for one, more exercise due to running to the bathroom every half hour! Seriously though, it can help aid digestion, help keep you regular, flush out excess water weight, clear out toxins, and even help clear your complexion.

Can you drink too much water? Certainly. Every person's limit is different. You need to maintain a proper balance of electrolytes in your system (sodium and potassium). However, most of us eat too much sodium, so with drinking water you can be less concerned over that.

What if you don't like water? Try to liven it up a little! Float slices of fruit or cucumber in it for a little bit of fresh taste. Add a few drops of lemon or lime juice to it. Try it ice cold or even warm. Drink through a straw. However you can get it down. Suitable substitutes for water need to be caffeine free, low calorie, and low sodium. Herbal and decaf teas, low sodium broth, crystal light, for example. Try to balance non-water beverages with fresh clean water.

    Very informative. I love my water, I drink it all day at work and when I work-out then usually have a diet/caffine free coke for dinner, but this week I have cut that out and only drinking water with my dinner.

    How did day 1 go for everyone? I know I got more than 64 ounces, but I don't know by how much!

    Hi Liz,

    My water intake was spot on yesterday. I use 2 different water bottles through out the day, one is 24 oz and I filled and drank that one twice - then I filled my gym water bottle and that one 32 oz, and I finished that one off.

    Then with dinner I drank another 10oz - so in total 90oz - its no wonder I felt sloshing going on in my belly :laugh:

    I drank my 64 oz of water yesterday. I am working on getting up to the half my weight.

    Half way to the 64 oz for today.

    Got in 112 yesterday :p

    Today I've got in 48 already, hoping to get in another 32 by the time I leave work :)

    Got well over the minimum water yesterday. I havent' been as successful today so far b/c I've been pretty busy. Time to catch up! And I've been really bad about logging calories and exercise. I've got to get my routine back.

    Glad to see all of you are sloshing around like me! LOL! I'm already reaching towards 80 ounces today. Been a particularly busy day for me, so I'm glad I'm forcing myself to drink my water every 15 minutes or so. Getting it all down!

    Jen - Just sip what you can when you can! It's hard to get to 1/2 your weight in ounces of water! My first day reaching it I thought I'd be sick! Don't make yourself sick on it. Just do what you can!

    Leigh - Time to reset that routine! This is a great time to get back at it!

    I've been bad with water this week so far. Especially since I can have Starbucks again;) (I gave it up for lent!) Good thing tomorrow is a new day!

    I never really track exactly how much water I'm drinking because it's never really been an issue. I'm sure I get at least the recommended amount, so that's one thing less for me to track.

    By the way, I have a suggestion for those of you who struggle with getting enough. Just make sure you always, at all times, have a bottle near you. If you're anything like me, you'll end up taking a sip every now and then just because it's standing there, and voilà, gone before you know it. :)

    Hey everyone! Having a rather rough morning, but I'm plugging along as best I can. Did great with water yesterday. Off to a great start today!

    Martine - That is a great tip for water drinking! I do that too.

    Becks - Just because you can have Starbucks doesn't mean you can't have water! :wink: You can do it!

    Ok...got 70 oz in yesterday. I am on my to that again today. Shew...burning calories going to the bathroom!! :-)

    I did enjoy a couple of beers yesterday with dinner so I am trying to flush that out!!

    Got in my water, but I did struggle with it for most of the day. Seriously short by the time I hit the gym, and boy did I feel it. Got cramps, and everything. Miserable time at the gym.

    Jen - If you keep at it, the constant running to the bathroom does slow down! It's good for you to flush out alcohol with lots of extra water too, works well and minimizes the chance of a hangover if you drink water with the alcohol. Gotta love that water!

    Woohoo, a fellow beer drinker!!!

    I've gotten my water everyday so far, including today. And I'm doing a bit better getting my calories and exercise in the log. Feeling good. But pizza with the family looms on the horizon tonight, so I need a light lunch strategy and a dinner plan to minimize the calories. My workout today will help, but I'm starting to get hungry! I wouldn't mind some light tuna salad, but my little boy has started eating tuna straight from the pouch with a side of capers which grosses me out so much that I can't stomach the mere thought of tuna!!!

    Getting in the water for the past few days. Aiming to drink extra today because of all the sodium from yesterday. Darned Subway. But its so delicious!

    I have only drank 32oz so far today - but I will hit my 64 by end of day for sure :)

    Well, I am beginning to think my stomach bug is actually bad milk. Since I had it on my cereal this morning and it made my stomach turn again. It smelled fine!

    Oh well. Drinking away my water. 16 ounces already, and working on my 1st of 3 750ml bottles. Even though 8 ounces of each goes to making my shakes, I still get plenty of water! Hopefully being properly hydrated will make my run easier tonight at the gym! I MUST drink all my water today!

    Crystal - I've found that drinking the 1/2 weight in pounds as ounce of water nicely counter-acts any sodium! Really does work well. You are way up there already! Wow. 96 ounces, plus 40 more. Great total! I'm at 80, I'll get a minimum of 16 during my workout, usually more like 32. Then another 16-32 with dinner. And a final 16 with my nighttime vitamins!

    Hope everyone is doing well today! Not floating away on me, are you? (Speaking of, off to the restroom with me, LOL!)

    My minimum is 70oz - usually on gym days I drink about 90, but when I run outside I try to have less so I don't have to go while running :). But I am with you about today, I had lots of sodium as well and may need to increase the H2O tonight.

    Hi everyone!

    Work is not going well. Been here 2 hours and nothing. My instruments are not working well with me today. Once I get them going, I have 3.5 hours of experiment to do. Ugh. At minimum, I'll be stuck in the lab until 8pm. On a beautiful Saturday afternoon. Bleh.

    Glad I packed 2 bottles of water instead of 1!
