Weight Loss with Training

I have to admit, I first agreed to do the half marathon because I thought it would be a great motivator to up my weekly mileage and I assumed the pounds would fall off. I had the naive dream that I would look like a lean, mean, running machine by race day. My race day is 8 days away and I have lost a grand total of....5 pounds! In hindsight, running the half has become much more to me than loosing lbs, and I am beyond glad that I signed up. However, it is frustrating to think I am logging 25 miles a week and not dropping anything more. If anyone out there has the secret to success I would love to hear it!

I gained when I started running. Allowed myself to eat too much because I was burning so much more running. Didn't start losing until I cut my calories.

It's all about eating right and counting calories if you truly want to lose the weight. You can't just eat all you want (and you'll be hungry with lots of running) and lose weight, you have to take the nutrition seriously. Make sure you get enough carbs to recover and still get plenty of protein.

    Good luck!

I'm right there with you! I signed up for the exact same reason. My race is three weeks away and I haven't lost a pound. My clothes don't seem to fit differently either. If anything, I have eaten too little during most of my training and have recently upped my calories trying to see if the scale will move no matter how slowly.

I feel your pain but am glad that you, like me, have gotten more out of the process than weight loss!

    Good luck in your race!

I'm with you as well. Just finishing my 3rd week of training, and I haven't lost any weight at all. I consistently eat a recommended net number of calories and still nothing. Its very discouraging.

I've heard it's very difficult to lose weight while you are a training for a distance race because you need to eat quite a bit to keep your body fueled properly.

Once I got close to my goal weight, my weight loss stalled for a bit because I was in training mode. Now the weight is coming off again (extremely slowly... about .2 a week), but I must have been doing something right because the inches were coming off a lot even when I wasn't losing weight.
