Okay since starting this site I have let go of some older hobbies that may have caused me to be more a bit lazier (sitting in front of my computer all day). The last thing I gave up was my MMO gamming I had just got my 4th toon in SWTOR to lvl 50 and was rather enjoying the pvp of using the force to kick some butt. I miss my toons and l=my long time running mate that I meet in WOW, then went on to play AOC, COH, RIFT, and then SWTOR. Still talk somewhat but it’s not the same.

So what geek type of activity have you given up for the sake of getting healthy and fit.

I've not given up, but I've reduced my WoW playing time from about 20 hours/week to 6-10 (make sure I'm there for raids and stuff right!).

I haven't given up any particular thing but I've given up a lot of time playing games, reading, etc to exercise.

I've given up Dungeons and Dragons for the last few months. It's so hard to stay on track there because when the table isn't loaded with character sheets, maps, figurines, and dice, it's loaded with bowls of chips or donuts or soda cans or chocolate. I miss it, but I figure it'll be more fun to game when I end up with boosted STR and CON and END stats IRL. ;D

Gave up my MMO's...I go to the withdrawl meetings once a week, and they seem to help

Video games. When I start a game, I don't feel like I'm done until I've found EVERYTHING.
I hadn't completed Donkey Kong Country Returns and I'm not sure when I'll get back to it.

Also, I don't look at the cheezburger websites too much anymore. I used to check them every day and spend at least an hour looking at all the new submissions.

Meh, I don't really game on the 360 as much as I used to. That time has easily been replaced by the amount of time I spend here, though, so I'm pretty sure it's a wash

Sadly those meetings are in second life.

This, only SWTOR and more like 4 hours. I miss WoW though. I don't miss SWTOR time as much as I thought I might, but my bf and I both play and we have raiders as well as "babies" which we're leveling together, so when we both have the time/inclination we'll co-level. He plays more than I do generally.

Honestly, I'm not sure I gave it up "for fitness." I LOVED playing it at first and even when we started raiding, and I still enjoy the co- and group-activities, but I'm pretty bored solo. That's probably more of the reason I've cut down.

Strictly "for fitness," I guess my answer is marathon sci-fi series with snacks and beer on hand. We still watch maybe an episode of something a night, but no more marathons with junk food.

I don't play WoW quite as much now. I used to pop on in the day (ahh that double-edged sword called working from home) but now I strictly limit it to evening after everything is done - and "everything" includes exercise.

You could totally count that as fitness-related, so no :)

Same for me. I started w/FFXI as my choice of MMORPG. From 2003 to 2009. I broke away and stopped cold turkey in Fall of 2009 when I discovered I had diabetes type II and was nearing 500 lbs. I didn't touch anything for the longest time. I did miss the game a bit but my health and well being just was more important. In late Jan of 2012 finally started up again with SWotR MMORPG.

I am no where near the way I was before. In the past I'd sink in 8-10 hrs. a day everyday. Now with SWotR I average 2-3 hours a week. I actually stopped and haven't logged on in over 8 weeks. I enjoy the grouping aspect and all but it all takes time and I am wary about getting sucked in again

the first time counts as low impact aerobics, if he does again within the hour, it high impact aerobics.

I had to give up late night gaming sessions due to a need for more sleep when I started exercising more.

OMG and late night taco bell runs because you didn't get dinner before the raid and you're starving. I sacrificed a lot of food for this fitness nonsense and food is something I geek out about so I think it counts. (not that taco bell is FOOD)

Former Taco Bell drive thru girl  I wish it had been just geeks ordering late at night. I always got the drunks that hit on me. I think they wanted free burritos
