Morning all! Apples, banana, protein bar and water gracing my desk this morning . . . probably take a stroll over to the nearby shopping plaza again for lunch today. And perhaps reward myself with shoes while I'm there. That's more positive than say, a cupcake, right?

Hope everyone has a GREAT day!!

Pretty good day over here too. Another NSV here. The too-tight shirt that started me on this journey fit today! I had bought it when I was 3 months postpartum and it fit just fine, then fast forward to when the 'baby' is two and I couldn't button it! I've outgrown pants before, but never a shirt! That was the eyeopener for me. And today it buttoned just fine! :)

Hiya gang, i hope everyones day is going well. Had an normal day at work and managed to stay on my feet for most of the day. Going to do some more painting in the bathroom shortly before i head to the gym. Going for a soild hour of cardio tonight and the usual weights. Hope it'll be easier than Tuesday night. I was huffing and puffing after that session. Read today about the link between sleep deprivation and weight gain. As a raging insomniac this worries me slightly. I had hoped giving up caffiene would have sorted out the problem but that's not been the case. Anyone have any tips for a good nights sleep?

@susie - i want details on the shoess! yay shoes!

@shorty - what a great feeling - kudos to you!

@pj - yikes. insomnia? i can fall asleep anywhere, anytime. sometimes it's rather unfortunate. :blushing:

have you tried doing yoga or meditation before lights out? at the end of our yoga class, our instructor tells us to close our eyes and imagine every body part getting heavier and heavier, sinking into the floor and melting. we have to really focus on letting our shoulders relax, and our toes and our fingers and our jaw. by the time we get through this, i could just stay there on the floor and take a nap! maybe something like that would help you? you could always give it a go.

my husband has trouble sleeping sometimes too, and for him, it's a mind thing. he just has so much clanging around up there it's hard to shut his brain down. so he keeps a notebook by his bedside, and anything that crosses his mind, he writes it down in list form. it seems to help him because it's a tangible way to say, 'i can't do this now, but i have it right here on my list for first thing in the morning'.

hope you find the culprit, and rock it out for no caffeine!

Got my eye on some black patent peep toe wedges! Not the most exciting of shoes choices, but cute, comfy, and perfect for summertime office wear.

@pj - have you tried melatonin? It's natural and supposedly effective based on what others who've used it have told me . . .
  • I got my workout in at the local YMCA alread and just got home from there and a side trip to Walmart. I picked up a watch heart rate monitor. I have a new balance pedometer but I'm not sure it is totally accurate so I thought I'd try out a heart rate watch to check the burn compared to what the treadmill tells me daily. Anyone else wear a watch monitor? Do you like it?

My insomnia has been a problem since childhood. I was always very jealous of my younger sister who seemed to be able to sleep through anything. I have wondered about meditation and yoga in the past but never looked into it. Maybe it's something i should look into. Thanks for the advice :-). As for melatonin i'll google it and see if it's available to buy here in the UK. Now that i'm trying to live a better life it's really something i need to get sorted. As much fun as lying awake all night is i think this sleep stuff is useful in general ;-).

well, today was my day off, so I ran around town doing errands from 11 til 5ish! For me on my days off, I usually don't eat much during the day, which was good for me, because I had a dinner date tonight :) We went for Mexican and since I didn't eat all that much today, I didn't feel too bad eating out. I basically consider my going from store to store to store to store, my exercise for the day! LOL. Friday, Saturday and Sunday, I plan on doing an hr on elliptical each day...then I leave Monday morning for vacay! So, I have done 2 hrs + of exercise this week so far!

PJ, if your insomnia is related to stress or anxiety I've found yoga to be a huge help for that, definitely worth giving a try.

Looked into a personal trainer at the gym tonight to help me with next stage of my program and I found out they also do full fitness assessments measuring body fat, metabolic rate and all that good stuff as well. I've decided to get that done as I think it might be a better way to assess my progress while I'm lifting since I'm not really losing any weight. If my body fat goes down, I think I can call that a success! I've been feeling quite discouraged this week so I think this will help me out. I had my body fat measured at a health fair last summer and I weighed less then so I suppose I will start by comparing to that since I gained weight before I started lifting and I doubt the extra pounds I packed on were muscle.

PJ, I suffered from insomnia for a period of time...try Organic Nighty Night Tea by Traditional Medicinals it promotes nighttime relaxation...I have some and it helped me. If it's not sold in the UK, try to find an herbal tea with Chamomile and Spearmint in it. Hope this is helpful!

Thanks so much guys i'm really grateful and please call me Paul :-). It's looking like yoga is the way to go and i'll look into teas that might help me out. I do have a very stressful job and i have to hope that when i leave it in 2013 it'll go some way to fixing me. Had another pretty sleepless night last night. Went to bed just after 10 and slept till about 2am and after that sleep was very broken. Hoping for an early finish today so i can get a gym session in before finishing painting the bathroom. Hope everyone has a good day today or erm is that tomorrow with the time difference and everything :-).
