New here...returning to running after injury

Hi all!
I'm new to this group. I'm a former runner who's been sidelined by a misdiagnosed injury. Finally got back on track a couple of years ago, after several years of terrible pain, then disaster! I reinjured myself last July, and it was so bad my physio said to stop running completely and work on building strength, rehab, etc. That's my sob story in a nutshell.
So, I've been progressing a lot in the last month - after many set-backs in the last 9 months. Today in my physio/training appt., physio suggested I should start back to running in 4 weeks! Woa! I'm so excited. But so terrified. She asked if I had any particular plan in mind for easing back...and I told her "as a matter of fact, there IS one plan I can think of !"
A bit early to this forum, but I know I'll get motivated reading about everyone here until I do start. At the minute I walk outdoors 1-2 hrs/5 days a week. I also have my physio exercises and I'm a yoga enthusiast.
Trying to think of some ways to build up my cardio and slowly introducing some impact cardio over the next four weeks. Any ideas? I'm SO tired of the elliptical machine, though. Walking is great, but I need to get my heart pumping again! Any suggestions appreciated.
Yay for the C25k. Look forward to joining in the actual running soon!
(sorry for the long post - got a little over-enthusiastic).

Do you have acces to a stair machine? Like one with actual revolving stairs? I use one occassionally (I'm recovering slowwwwwwwly from a knee injury) and there is a bit of impact there and it raises my heart rate quite a bit. Also try a high incline on the treadmill if you want (I know lots of outdoor runners that loathe treadmills)... it's a way to get that heart rate up and you have the impact of walking. Good luck with getting back into running!0
