So I love cake too and this is what I am learning; angel food cakes are lower in calories then say a chocolate fudge cake. They are NOT a "freebie- eat as much as I want" food. But they ARE a "I need sugar so badly I am going to start eating by the spoonful if I don't get some" thing for me. Use egg whites, not whole eggs when you make it. Add a small scoop of sugar free whipped cream and some strawberries on top and I have my low fat low sugar strawberry shortcake. This isn't a "healthy food" by any means but it is an alternative to something higher in fat or calories. Also when in a pinch, I go fat free sugar free instant sugar free pudding, sugar free whipped cream and berries (either strawberries, bananas, or raspberries). Then I layer it in a bowl and make a tart with it. This is NOT a SUPER healthy food. But when you are just CRAVING something other then lean meats and vegetables this helps me. I have come to a point where I am "okay" with sugar as long as it comes from a thing that must grow...like an apple, banana, or pear (apples must be dipped in natural peanut butter for me, lol). It has helped me when the sugar craving starts taking over. It's a better choice then fudge anyways. Bottom line, I learned that I MUST have a little sugar sometimes or I end up binging. I keep READING LABELS. I feel kind of embarrassed in the store reading the labels all the time but I still feel better then I did before trying this weight loss journey. Good luck, I hope this helps.0
