Week3.jpg

The week we add exercise to our challenge! The goal is to find ways to incorporate 20 minutes of strength training and 45 minutes of cardiovascular training. Both types of exercise are important to a healthy lifestyle! Cardio is great for improving your overall fitness level, burning fat in a short time and releasing endorphins to our system. Strength training is great for maintaining your muscle mass for an increased metabolism and keeping us from looking "soft" when we reach our goals.

Goals:
Water: 6/7
Food: 6/7
Cardio: 45 minutes
Strength: 20 minutes

Hi everyone! Busy day yet again today. But I've got some new answers to go with my questions I had over the weekend. So that's good at least. Back to work on writing my next paper. Whee!

I'm here, Liz. Great workout this morning and Pilates yesterday, so my exercise is already done for the week...ha ha! I went over on calories yesterday, so I better behave today. But it's "Taco Tuesdays" at my favorite restaurant and apparently, yesterday was "Mexican Monday" and the night before that I made chili. I need some good ole fashioned hometown healthy food or I am going to turn into a darned taco! But I'm keeping the beer in check, drinking LOTS of water and working out. The scale hasn't been moving much though......

This should be interesting. I usually don't do cardio and strength on the same day. We'll see how it goes :)

I'm back! My internet was off this past week and I can't post from my phone because it's an old phone that doesn't support the app, but I'll try to be more regular this week. :)

    I've been so busy!!!

The hubs and I are going to go lift when he gets off work this evening. This week's challenge should be easy for me....it's the water I need to consistently work on!

    Hi,

I am here! I can't post from my phone and I have a new one. I can't seem to get to the message boards. So I only post when I am at work :-)

I bought a fitbit yesterday! Hopefully that will arrive soon.

I also started using my FIRM DVDs again. I forgot how good I felt after doing those. They are usually an hour and combine strenghth and cardio....so i will be able to do this!

Hope everyone has a great day!

    Hi everyone!

I have been crazy busy today, and it's not going to ease off for a while. Sucks!

Leigh - I'm envious of all the tex-mex you've been eating! Most of it, I can't have. Miss it a lot!

Crystal - The minutes of exercise are total for the whole week. No need to do both on one day.

Martine - Glad to have you back! My phone app doesn't do message boards. I don't know about a newer version...

Becks - If exercise is the easy part, focus on getting that water in!

Jen - Wow! One workout will get you most of the way through the challenge for the week with those videos! Hope you love your fitbit as much as I love mine!

    Hey all,

I have been a little MIA since Sunday due to a course I had to take for my job, but it is now over. But now the workload will increase :)

I have been getting my strength and cardio in every day. The one good thing about taking the class from home, I could get my weight training in on the breaks and then my run in on my lunch hour.

Tonight I plan to run 5-6 miles, but no strength training.

My calories have been on point so far this week as well, hoping for a loss this week as last week I stayed the same after upping my calories.

    Have a great day/week

Liz - My phone just doesn't do commenting at all. On this site, Glamour, ever Facebook unless I use the FB app, you can watch all you want, but forget about commenting. :D

Today I did measly 5-7 min weights, walked a lot and ran almost a kilometer (even though I was chasing the bus, so technically, not a workout), and got in way more water than I needed, but that's the norm for me. :D

By the way, does anyone happen to know of some good workout videos, preferably free and online? Jillian has great workouts, but I've been through every one of them that I could get my hands on and I'm getting kind of bored.

Thanks Lizard. I was a bit confused :p

And Sister, I got some workout videos off youtube depending on what I wanted to do. I've been doing a lot of heavy weights and NROL4W, but before I would search youtube for something like "Full body workout with dumbbells" or even "Cardio routine" or "kickboxing" and see what I could find.

Hey gang! Glad to see everyone around!

I got all the strength training in on Monday, LOL! I did an hour yesterday. My shin cramped up while running, so I couldn't do it after about 13 minutes. That really sucked a lot. So I meandered over to the free weights and managed to get use of a smith machine too. Tried out some lifting I haven't done before. Pretty cool! And no soreness today. A little fatigue, but I expected that.

Crystal - I'm going to be starting NROWL4W here soon! It feels so empowering to lift heavy weights!

Martine - Oi, old phones suck. Hopefully will get to replace mine here soon with the new(er) Samsung Galaxy Nexus. I think running a km counts, even if chasing the bus. LOL! I've bought most of my workouts, but there is some great stuff on youtube, just search for something you are interested in!

Claudette - Sounds like you'll make your exercise minutes this week with no problem! Good job!

    Hi all,

Hope everyone is having a great day. It is beautiful here today, high 50s and sunny, so with a day like this myself and a co-worker went for a walk at lunch and I plan to go for a run after work.

    Chat later.

Is it negative points if I don't even nearly make my calorie goal? I don't dare to chew, so all I had to eat today was some soup, yogurt, coconut milk and juice, I got barely half of my calories.

Cushygal (I'm sorry, I forgot your name) - That's awesome about the weather! I'm glad you had a nice day.

Me, my day sucked big time. Last night I was eating -supposedly pitted- prunes and I guess I bit into a stray piece of pit and I split one of my upper right molar teeth in half, lengthwise. Today at my dentist's office I got told it has to go out, but the one of them who actually takes teeth out is somewhere on a conference so the next available appt is tomorrow afternoon and until then I'm stuck with the pain, ice chips and ibuprofen.

Martine - I think you get medical leave until you can eat real food again!

Claudette - Totally envious of your weather! I'm hoping it will be nice enough for me to go for a run tomorrow, instead of hitting the treadmill, as they hurt way more than outside!

I'm feeling really good after yoga. Nice and refreshed. I'm so pleased with going to that class, it's very rewarding for me. Tomorrow, lift and run! Whee. Just a week and a couple of days left to train for the 5k!

I'm gonna say that I officially don't understand people who willingly choose to engage in liquid only diets for no reason at all. I'm not even hungry, all that liquid fills you up, but I wanna, y'know, chew food. :D Dentist's is 5 pm today, hopefully it will be better after that.

I decided that I have to stop making up excuses such as the time doesn't fit me, I don't have time, it's too far away from my home to be worth it... and find myself a yoga class again. I signed up for one in the beginning of the last year, just to try it out because it was free at my school and I absolutely LOVED it. But that only lasted one school semester and I stopped after because I was -still am- too lazy to actually look for one.

BTW, Liz, your 5k training inspires me. I totally want to be able to do that, but at the moment I can't make more than 5 minutes without needing to stop.

OUCH. Sister, that tooth sounds awful. I hope the dentist can relieve the pain and get you back on solid foods soon! My sympathies.

Agreed on the inspiration gained from the 5K training Liz is doing; I know a lot of folks doing 5K training right now and I am envious, but I just don't really enjoy running. I can walk til the cows come home and can do quite a workout on the elliptical for an hour, but running......eeek. Maybe someday.

I've got another sinusitis episode coming on which really tweaks me off. Just went through this at the end of the last challenge. Can my sinuses really be this ineffective? I'm eating so well and exercising and drinking so much fluid I'm floating....it just doesn't seem fair. But in the grand scheme of things, it's not that big a problem to deal with so I need to quit my WHINING and get over it!

The sucker tooth is out!. The hole is huge and a bit sore, but it doesn't hurt anymore. :) At least I got away without any stitches. I'm staying away from crunchy foods for a while, but I'll figure out something I can chew by tomorrow.

Leigh, I feel your pain about that sinusitis. I was just getting over an episode. They were quiet for about two years, and then, whoosh, out of nowhere. :( I hope you'll feel better soon.

As for running, I've come to realize it's something you learn to love. The first time I ever took a run (for no reason other than exercise) in my life was less than two months ago and I totally hated it. I did it the first time just to prove to myself that I could. And I did it again and again because I'm not of the kind that gives up on anything after the first try. Somewhere along the way I started loving it. Give it a shot!

I had a tooth removed a few weeks ago, the day after a huge filling. The stitches kept touching my cheek which annoyed me but for the first 48 hours I was absolutely miserable. I slept as much as I could because, get this, they had to file down my bone in my jaw since it moved when they pulled it. I felt like a semi had hit me. I hope you don't feel that way!

And I just did B1 today, so you should def be psyched. I really feel like a strong woman when I'm the only female in the free weights and weight room. The men move out of my way.

    Happy weekend all.

Hope everyone is having a great one. I went and got fitted for a new pair of running shoes today and found out that the pair I had been wearing(previously fitted for) were a half size too small. I also got me a running belt and sunglasses - looking forward to my run tomorrow.

I have also decided to join a local run club that starts May 16 - this group will help build up my speed. When I first started running 2 years ago I used the walk/run version of this group - so this will be a step up.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend
