ok i had been feeling super ****ty lately, extremely tired, etc so i had my blood tested 2 weeks ago and these were my results.. let me know what you think as they are technically in the normal range...

TSH: 2.9
T3:4.37
T4:12.8
my B12 was around 300 which wasn't as bad as i thought... i get a shot every 3 weeks and it's usually 169 or so by the time i get my shot and it should be over 1000... i know that doesn't help me being tired but this is just different.. i know it's thyroid... as there are many other side effect too but the fatigue is the worst..

Normal range is a pretty big range, and it's proven that some people need to be much lower than others to do well. If my TSH isn't below 2.0, I'm generally on autopilot. I'd say a small increase in meds would be in order. But, I know that some doctors don't like to increase dosages often. So, I'd say, ask and if necessary, be a pest.

TSH: 2.9 - normal is .450 - 4.5 -- although some people do feel hypo at 2.9 -- mine is generally around 0.1
    T3:4.37 - normal is 2.0 - 4.4 -- so this looks good.
    T4:12.8 - normal is 4.5 - 12.0 - so your T4 is a little high - but I don't think that's a concern unless your T3 is too low.

I would say these look pretty good -- but thinking Vitamin D? We know that Vitamin D deficiency can make you feel very, very bad.. you may want to start with 5,000 mg of D3 at bedtime -- it might help you to relax. I also swear by Natural Calm - magnesium citrate -- it's a miracle - calms me down, helps me sleep and relieves constipation.

If you are stressed out GABA is also good -- I take 2 capsules 2x a day - I think they are 500 mg each.

    Just some ideas...

thx. i know last time my results were perfect but i can't find them... i wanted to compare them, so i have left a message at my dr's office for my dr to call me when she is back from holidays in a week. I am so bagged! it's terrible!!! i mentioned vit d to her at that time when i had my blood work, they took blood for it too but she said they are so backed up with the results it takes a LONG time till they get them back, so she said to just start taking them. i didn't want to unless it was really my thyroid as she upped my dose in sept, that was the 1st time ever...i've been on it for years... what ever my tsh was at last time was the perfect number, i felt so good... i will have to ask her what that number was and what i can do to get back to it? with out changing my t3/t4 numbers too much...

what does it mean when your t4 is high? what are side effects or symptoms?

T4 being high should not have any symptoms. T4 is an inactive hormone. Your thyroid is supposed to convert T4 to T3. If conversion isn't happening, your T3 goes low and you feel like crap. If T4 is low, your pituitary puts out a bunch of TSH telling your body to produce T4. So, what we usually see is HIGH TSH, Low T4 and Low T3.

Taking the Vitamin D (make sure it is D3) won't change your thyroid levels -- but it might help you to feel better.

If my TSH was 2.9, I'm pretty sure I would feel bad even though it's technically in the "normal" range. My TSH is currently below normal range, and I feel good. That's why it's important to ask your doctor to treat your symptoms, not your lab tests!!

thx. i will get her to grab my last results and see what she can do about my dose to get it back to there. last time she even mentioned that it was perfect and i couldn't go any lower...

even though i have been on meds for years i have never taken the time to learn properly about my thyroid condition till now, so i am so new to learning all about this... thanks for giving me lots of good info!

If you have been on Thyroid meds for a while you might also want to have your adrenals and cortisol checked. If you adrenals are low you will feel really bad. Mine were completely exhausted for around 2 years. I now can tell when they get low and I have a natural supplement I take to help (Isocort) good luck

never even heard of adrenals before, i heard about cortisol and my stress levels should be just fine and not affecting me... i also never had my meds upped till last fall, years being on the same dose. My dr always said your normal until last year after feeling so crappy for way to long i told her i WANT my meds upped. then she did it... so to think i could of felt better years ago!

well my dr called me back today about my results and no change in the meds. I pushed it and she said that my results were good and that there is not much room for movement with my meds... so she said for me to double up on my meds every sunday and see if that kick starts things each week. Try that for 1 month and then if no improvement then she will refure me to a gland specialist????

Well here's my two cents to do with what you will. I'd fire that doctor and find one that's willing to treat to symptoms and not just numbers on a piece of paper. You were just blown off by someone who gets paid to listen to your concerns.

and usually she is really good, she has been our family dr for so many years.... she is great with everything else except this thyroid thing. i get that there might not be much room for movement in the med department, but there has to be something to do? change type of meds, etc... what is a glad dr going to do ???? tell me that it's not that bad and deal with it? so i am keeping onto her with this month thing and i will double up my pills every sunday and then after 1 month if no improvement i WILL expect her to do something about it. either try a different type of med or send me to that gland dr...

Yes - most endos are no better than family doctor when it comes to thyroid. You need to find a doctor that specializes in thyroid and all the other systems that go with it --

There's some tips for finding a doctor here: http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/how-to-find-a-good-doc/

Your best bet is to find the "right" doctor sooner rather than later!
