Eggplants! So far I find no other veggies that compare to eggplants as far as fiber goes.
  • They are on the no no list too

then you can get fiber from fruit. Raspberries are very high in fiber and quite low in sugar.
  • Thanks!

From what I understan you can eat them in limited quantities as long as they are steamed...so you could cook the spinach and steam the broccoli also I believe squash is good and other lettuces, romaine...My son has hashis and does ok with those and I am hypo and so far have had no trouble....cutting out the grain is what helped the most!!

I also have Hashi's and typically eat a mild amount of cruciferous vegetables weekly without any problems because cooking them greatly reduces their goitrogenic effects. However, you'll also want to stay away from nightshades as they have been shown to give people like us with autoimmune diseases even more issues. I typically do salads, lots and lots of dark lettuces and spinach (goitrogenic food). As far as fiber goes though, you can add avocados, carrots, and mushrooms to the list of fibrous foods. I wouldn't worry so much about fiber because honestly, you won't need to go #2 as often as SAD dieters do. Sorry if its TMI, but typically it's once every 3-4 days, sometimes 5-6 days, between trips where #2 is the main event. It was strange at first because I thought there was something wrong with me and I started marking days on the calendar when I'd go. Now if it's everyday, it starts to make me wonder. It's an addiitonal benefit of the exceedingly long list why it's awesome to be Paleo/Primal.

The #2 thing is interesting. Before Primal if I didn't go I would feel like crap all day. Feeling like I had to go but nothing would happen (turned out that "feeling" was some serious inflammation!). I would be so bloated from it. And it would feel like gas is trapped. Now if it doesn't happen it's just no biggie. And it's so nice to have small, skinny, soft ones. I think something this natural - something that everyone does - shouldn't be TMI but unfortunately we humans have gotten really "anal" about some things! (excuse the pun!!)

EDIT: You can search the MDA forums, too. Just type in Hashimotos or thyroid and you'll get a long list of threads. I find all kinds of information over there.

I have hashi's also.... I eat WELL COOKED - Broccoli, Cauliflower etc without issues.

    I also eat:
Sweet Potato, ALL lettuces, fruits ( even though I really don't like them), eggplant, cuc's, zucc every squash under the sun etc.....

I think you will be fine as long as they are cooked well!

I was also going to suggest avocadoes (or is it avocados?), I think half of one has like 4-5 grams of fiber.
