I just joined the group and wanted to say hello to everyone. I'm on a 30 pound weight loss journey. I got bigger than I'd ever been in my life, and all of it went right to my waist! Since 2006, I've gained about 40 pounds, 30 of it in a year. I think work stress had a lot to do with it. I suspect my cortisol level probably shot through the roof!
But here I am, determined to get this ugliness off of me!
BTW, I just turned 56.![ ](https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/resources/emoji/tongue.png)

Hi Beth!
I'm new too!
Here's a little of my recent story:
Hit a big bump last Sept. Had my left knee replaced. Morning of surgery, I was at 225. Got a little obsessive on toward the holidays and hubby and I took a break. Got sort of back to better eating, but not eating within calories in January. My Dad was in and out of the hospital with lung cancer. Stressful. Then, on Feb. 22nd, I had my right knee replaced. My Dad passed away the next afternoon. I tried to start back to eating better the week following the funeral. I went for my first check up with the surgeon and I wasn't healing well, I had a superficial infection in my incision and he wanted me to eat more. More protein and he said 3K calories a day. I was stunned! First, I have never in my life had a doctor tell me to eat more! Second, that he expected me to eat 3K calories and not balloon up quickly. I ate more protein and stayed the same and healed.
I've been puttering around for the last couple weeks, not trying hard enough to eat well and no junk! Today is the day! Kick me in the rear ladies!0 -
Wow, you've been through the wringer! I hope you have smooth sailing for the rest of your journey!
I'm still on the fence with eating more calories as so many have said. I'm exercising more though, so I guess I need to adjust for that at least.
Welcome and good luck!0 -
Welcome to both of you. Looks like you're both off to a good start. Kat--I've had one hip replaced and need the other one done as well as both knees, so I know how hard it is to get your exercise when it's difficult to move a lot.0

Thank you for sharing your stories, Kat and Beth. It is very hard when your head tells you that you can, then your body tells you it can't. I am so sorry for your loss Kat. I have had one knee replacement and it is hard to get these joints moving sometimes. People say work thru it...no... if you watch The Biggest Loser ...their Dr has removed many of a contestant for healing .0
