Hey everyone!
I'm been stalking the Eat More to Weight Less board for a while now. I just want to start by saying thank you for all of the time and effort you have put into this group. Even though I haven't interacted with the board, I've been religiously reading everything that's been said in an attempt to move myself off a months long plateau.
I increased my calories to 1900 (making sure I netted my BMR of 1550 every day) eight weeks ago, and to date I haven't seen any progress in my weight or measurements.

To provide some background, I started dieting in August of last year, and lost around 30 pounds (14 kg) between Aug and Dec. In December, my weight loss came to a total standstill and I've only lost 0.4 of a kilo since January. I was doing the genetic eating 1200 - 1400 calories and completed the C25K program during the period when I was consistently losing weight.

I discovered this board when I went searching for ways in which to break my plateau. About 4 months into my plateau, I realised that during the time that my weight loss had slowed, my period had gone funny. It was light, very late, stopping and starting for 2 weeks... that kind of thing. Since I've begun eating more, my cycle has once again become regular but I've found that I've been may more hormonal during my last two periods. So, I am reluctant to drop my calories again.
Exercise wise, after I completed C25K, I joined a gym and now I do weights and cardio. I am slowing building up in my weights, I do a mixture of machine and free hand weights 3 times a week, and cardio 2 to 3 times a week, though I've toned down my running and cycling since I've upped my calories. I generally do 30 - 40 of cardio twice a week.

I've also began focusing on my macros. I am aiming for the 40/30/30 ratio suggested by you lovely ladies.

Any suggestions or feedback that anyone can offer is much appreciated. I turn 21 in under just a month and whilst I am proud that I will be 20kg lighter than I was when I turned 18, I am slightly upset that I've made no progress what so ever this year.

If you haven't lost but haven't gained I'm thinking you need to up your calories more, just based on other things I have read here, but I could be wrong.

What is your age, weight, height, activity level?
  • I'm 20, 169cm (5'6.5) and 70.8kg (156 - 155lbs). BMI is 24.9.
I'm a student but I do move around a very large campus. And i alternate between 1hr to 45min weight sessions and 45-30 min cardio. 5 to 6 times a week.

Mybweightbhas fluctuated, but after 8wks, it's hovering around the same 3 pounds as it was prior to increasing my calories. Measurement wise I'm up a cm in my thighs and arms.

I believe you need more fuel. Whenever I have fluctuated the same few pounds it has been because I wasn't eating enough. The small gain in thighs and arms is probably muscle.

So, what is your calculated BMR, TDEE, cut value and how many calories have you been consistently eating?

does this mean you are eating 1900 and working out and burning 400+ cals and only netting 1550?

If so, I would guess you ned to eat more.

Keep at it.. it has taken me 9 weeks of playing around with 4 pounds up and down, but to finally see the inches change (just took measurements today).. it DOES work, but you need to make sure you are using the right numbers. If you are netting 1550 a day, I would almost bet you are still not eating enough..
    Have faith:)
  • I,ve benn eating 1900-1800, netting between 1550 to 1700 depending on exercise.

My TDEE is 2394, BMR is 1544.

I'll increase my calories by 100 - 200 and see how that goes. Thanks for feedback!

Great start with 100 and be consistent with your numbers, macros, and be sure to net BMR on workout days. Remember the body will take a little time to adjust to new cals. Be patient and watch your trending.
