I've read it, and to be honest, I think it's fairly tame. Erotic romance, at best. Porn? No. I've read more pornographic material in fashion magazines, to be frank.

Ok Patti. Let's test that theory.
I label the bible as pornography. In it men have sex with their children and multiple wives and all sorts of nasty business. It's disgusting and shouldn't be available to read in public institutions.Your move.
I purposefully left out my moral reasons for not reading or watching pornography. No matter how I answer from my Christian viewpoint, the bible or Christianity will be attacked.
Let's not fool ourselves here. We all know what pornography is. Again, I haven't read this book, but from many reviews I've seen, it's considered soft porn. Call it what it is.

I am currently reading this book and would not call it porn. If we ban this book then we are on the brink of banning other books. Why not ban Harry Potter for the use of magic? Or every other book that includes a bad word? Banning from SCHOOL libraries I can understand but from a public library is absurd. It's up to the parents to know what their kids are reading.

So, do we all agree that a public library should not provide pornography, though? Books nor movies?

Good morning! So I saw a clip on the news this morning that some libraries are banning these books for being "too hot and racy". I haven't read them yet but I don't believe that any book should be banned from a public library... has anyone in here read them? Opinions?

I'm with you. Banning books is just never OK.

There was some stupid column in the newspaper Sunday that was nothing more than a rant claiming that women reading these books are somehow hurting women's rights.

I don't care to read them myself, but there's nothing wrong with fantasy.

Then they shouldn't have any romance novels or VC Andrews, either.

    What about pornographic books?

I guess I'm just confused on why it's so hard to call pornography what it is. Come on; there's a huge difference between romance novels and Playboy magazine, for instance.

I still don't agree with it. A lot of books, even the classics have what people could consider 'pornographic.'

Okay. So you don't support the banning of any types of books, magazines, or videos in public libraries?

50 shades of gray is pretty tame. I am very shocked it would be banned. I don't even believe the word 'Vagina' is ever used.

I'm not in favour of a public library stocking Playboy etc, or films made explicitly for the 'adult' market. But that's about where I feel that sort of ban should end. It becomes too difficult to define the line between what is 'pornographic' and what is simply 'sexually explicit' (and yes, I do believe there is a difference). The sort of restrictions being suggested would eliminate the provision of too many films and books in which sexually explicit material is only a part of a whole, rather than the primary purpose.

One has photos and one's just descriptions. Romance novels are pretty racy.

And have you ever read Flowers in the Attic?

My issue is what people consider 'Pornographic.' If 50 shades of Gray is considered porn than I know a lot books that should be banned.

No. Ha! I remember wanting to so badly when I was little, but my mom wouldn't let me. I think I was in junior high when it was popular.

As with many things, there is a lot of grey area for what people would define as pornograhic.

Some books that people have tried to have banned for being pornagraphic:

    The Catcher In The Rye
    1984
    Anne Franke's Diary

Do you consider all the above to be pornographic? It may be easy to draw a distinction between Mother Goose Nursery Rhymes and Hustler magazine, but whose subjective opinion will decide on the things that don't fall into one extreme or the other?

The context is the celebration of marital love not focusing on sex for the sake of sex.

Posted something, then changed my mind, as I don't wish to offend. Can't delete the post, though.
