Is there something wrong with me?

I had band with plication on April 9th. Thus far, I have lost 20 pounds (total) that's including 2 weeks on a liquid diet. Is this average? I feel like it's really slow? I don't go for my band adjustment until 5/15, but right now I feel like I can eat more than I should be able to. I am consuming 1100 or so cals a day. I'm really hoping the band adjustment will help me. Did anyone else feel like this??

I still don't know what plication is but my understanding was that most banders don't lose significantly until after the adjustment but that banding is slower than the sleeve or RNY anyway and 20 lbs sounds pretty good.

I had the band and plication on Jan 3, 2012. You are doing great. The band is much slower than the other surgeries. I have lost 29 lbs. I am very happy with this. My doctor said that any thing from 1/2 to 2 lbs a week is ideal. I also measure myself as when I do not lose on the scale I usually have lost inches. Do not get discouraged. It is a life style change and it will take time. Feel free to add me as a friend. I think you are doing great.

Hon, 20 lbs in less than a month? Think about that... and if you have to, go to the Grocery store and put 20 lbs of butter in a cart, then stand there and look at it... for as long as it takes... that is what you have lost! Also, remember that fat, by volume, weighs less than muscle. It's the fat you are losing... think about how your clothes are fitting, and hang out with people who love you, they will tell you how great you look.

Remember, it's not about the number!!! Lose the scale, it doesn't tell the whole story. Get someone to take your picture, in a doorway (for scale), every couple of weeks or so. I put on a bikini, (that I wouldn't be caught dead in outside of my house), and have my daughter take a few shots... front, both sides, and back. (I'm going to make a flip book out of them).

God Bless, and lots of love
  • Don't worry, you are doing great! Be careful to eat small bites, and chew-chew-chew. When that band gets filled you will notice immediately that you should have been in training for a much smaller pouch. I figured if I could eat fairly normal, while still watching myself I was doing all right. That was until that first fill! Had to pull out the manuel my doctor gave me and shocked myself all over again about only eating 1/2 cup of food at a time for a meal:o) Not to worry, you will be full. My doctor is also adamant about not drinking 1/2 hour before a meal and waiting at least 30 - 45 minutes after. I was banded in 2010 and it took me over a year to get to goal.
  • Flip book!? PJM - you are totally awesome:o) I love that idea, however I think I will stick with the little black dress. Like you, my wonderful daughter has been with me all the way. Support is so very important.

My weight loss with the band was slow. Still is. I'm at proper restriction (any more and I get bad nighttime reflux), but I can still eat a fair amount.
