I just added cytomel. Dose of synthyroid reduced. At least I'm not over eating, but am not full of energy to say the least. I'm having trouble loosing weight and have stayed the same for over a month. I can't exercise a lot due to another health problem and add the thyroid and I've become a sloth...well kind of. Suggestions? Experiences?

What about your adrenals - if you are producing too much cortisol, it will prevent weight loss -- and some of us produce cortisol at the wrong times of day so it's best to have the 24 hour saliva test to see what your levels are throughout the day. Also, wondering if they tested for Reverse T3 - if your levels are high it will shut down weight loss.0 -
thanks, will ask about the reverse T 3 next visit in June. or possibly even better I can e-mail her and ask for it to be added to the lab slip I have.0

I've been on both T4 and T3 combo, I notice T4 hasn't really worked for me, but the T3 is good depending on the dosage. I started T3 at 5mcg. But now I am at 15mcg and I have much more energy.
The only bad thing about me is my TSH is suppressed.... and my current endo reduced my T3 to 10mcg (because she's trying to get my TSH to normal range) and the fatigue started kicking in again. (Why change my dose if I am feeling fine) So, I requested a second opionion... and got it up again since my Labs are showing average T3 levels.... Currently, switching to a new endo.
So, request a higher T3 dosage since that gives you instant energy.... the T4 may not be converting to the T3 soon enough for you to be energize for the day. I hope you start to feel better soon!0 -
Hi! I started on cytomel as well at the end of April. I am losing pounds now! It feels great to finally see that scale move! I lost 4lbs in this last week! It just started melting off. Which is about time because I have been working my butt off for months with very little to no results. So it is a huge motivation. I believe it is due to starting the cytomel.0

You mentioned appetite. do you believe thyroid meds ( or thyroid function) effect your appetite? Ive noticed since starting cytomel my appetite is way down (which is good I felt like I could never get full before!) I just hadn't really thought of thyroid affecting appetite0 -
I just wanted to add another side of things. After seeing how much certain information is pushed on this board Ive done a lot of research. There is currently no such thing as adrenal fatigue due to an underfunctioning thyroid. Its a theory created and backed ONLY by non licensed 'medical' professionals When they explain it it seems to make sense but when you delve farther you can see there is ZERO science to back it up.0

Thanks for all of your comments. I am on 5mg and feel slightly stoned. Will have to see if it gets better after a week or two or will need to reduce the dose. I am extremely sensitive to all medications. Yes, I think my appetite is less since I started cytomel...that would be nice.0

I've been taking cytomel for a couple of years. I take 2 pills in the morning with my synthroid, then 1 in the afternoon if i start to hit that wall of fatigue. I find that it really seems to help boost my energy levels.0

I've been taking Cytomel since January, and I absolutely couldn't live without it - it really makes a huge difference for me. Previously, I had been on Synthroid/various dosages. It woudn't matter if my labs showed me in the normal ranges or not, I always had a storm cloud floating above my head. As soon as the Cytomel was added 25mcg split into 2 dosages per day - that cloud lifted and I felt good/normal/no more hypo feelings.
Let your doctor know, you might need a litle bump.0
