My name is Alicia. I am 22. I have been a diabetic since I was 19 years old. I struggle alot of coping with it and controlling my blood sugars. I have family who are by my side but feel like I am alone. I dont like the fact that I am overweight and a diabetic. I just want to be healthy cause I am scared that it will get worse. I have trouble focusing on my health and I want to find other people who will believe in me and stick with me who are also struggling with being a diabetic just like me.

i know what you mean it's a hard life sometimes. but, it really doesn't have to be. just take a deep breath and take it day by day. do the best you can do.

    Welcome.

I echo the advice to take it day by day. Is it hard sometimes? Yes. Does it suck? Yes.

The good news? It doesn't have to control you. You can control it. It doesn't have to mean that your health will decline. You can be healthier than ever.

Take one day, one step at a time. Pretty soon a lot of it becomes second nature, and life gets easier. The key to preserving and bettering your health is to start taking it seriously now. It's much easier to prevent damage than it is to reverse it.

I hear ya! I am new diagnosed and last week just went through the angry phase of this disease. I was also not eating enough and that made me cranky too.

I am trying to keep things under control but I am getting mixed advice (something I knew would happen when people found out I was diabetic). I was able to lower my A1c from 9 to 7.5 in 6 weeks under strict control. I have let myself go just a teeny bit (accepting higher numbers but still within range) and I am ok with that for now. I will let you know how I feel about that in 5 months after my next A1c test.

    You can do this!

Hi Alicia, Kurt here ... I'm not 22 but hear ya. I'm 55, been diagnosed with Diabetes for about 5 years now. I went through the phases.... the WTH, the anger then the ok i'm going to tame this.

We're here to help each other. This site helps because you can track everything you eat and drink as well as your exercise. Take it one day at a time as was said earlier. My A1C used to be around 8.6 and now is normally around 5.8.

Good luck, You can do it!!!
