I need to go Gluten/Dairy free!

Hi everyone,

I've been pouring over these forums and I kept noticing people mentioning going gluten and dairy free to help with hypothyroidism.
So I decided to do some research and over the last 24-48hrs I've discovered all the UGLY truth of these things against your thyroid. It started lining up with other symptoms that both me and my family are currently and recently experiencing including, diarrhoea, bloating, fatigue etc. :noway:
So question is, where do I start? :frown:
I literally discovered all this the day after doing a massive grocery shop! AAARGH! And of course bought all our glutenous/ dairy oriented products!:grumble:
I know I have a dairy allergy and tend to steer well clear of it except on special occasions or once a year I allow myself a splurge.
But this is arising in my children, one of whom has a goitre and the other one has a chronic weight problem.
My hubby is also having chronic wind and bloating and suffers from gallstones (which seem to be eradicating themselves since we've gone vegetarian).
My concern is, will an extreme measure of chucking it all out anndd starting again be the best option, or should I follow a slow detox and use up what I bought just not replacing it?
I read the GlutenFreeGoddess blog about going extreme which measured a clients son's progress and he went to the point of licking the kitchen table trying to get the gluten ingrained!!!:noway:
Any advice and tips would be much appreciated!:flowerforyou:

I know what you're saying!! I went gluten and dairy free in January, 2012. But my husband had no intention of doing so!! So, I have to be very careful not to be tempted by his gluten and dairy. Getting rid of the gluten was pretty easy!! But the dairy tempted me -- and occasionally I will have a piece of cheese... but I switched to coconut and almond milk. Giving up yogurt was hard. I workout a lot and need protein, so I switched to veggie protein - like pea, rice and hemp protein. There's some good ones out there....

I think if you've been eating gluten all your life and you want to go gluten-free that it's probably fine to wean yourself off of it and not throw away your food... just don't buy anymore! And read labels - gluten is hiding everywhere.

Good luck --your belly will thank you!! http://www.wheatbellyblog.com/

    Thanks Terri!:flowerforyou:

I had a bit of a downer yesterday and pigged out so back on the bandwagon today. I will do that, use up the food and just not replace it. I do have a friend who's GF and I'm sure she'll be a great help too.
I looked in my cupboard and was just awestruck with how much has G in it! And dairy!

But on the upside as you say, health takes precedence and my/our bellies should be thankful.

    Does it speed up weightloss?

I hope so! I keep fluctuating up and down, so frustrating!
