soy

Hi. I'm new to this group. I have hashimoto's hypothyroid etc... boring background done. I want to do the low carb diet and am following Metabolism Miracle book. However, the author recommends a lot of soy products. Soy and hypothyroid medications don't mix.
Therefore, my main question is does anyone know of an alternative to soy protein for a protein shake, or an alternative to soy flour?

whey protein... Tons of shakes are made with whey. it's dairy.
I drink Atkins shakes...
But, you can buy protein powder made from Whey. In my view, that seems to be the most popular one and easy to find.
hope this helps....

Thanks so much. I was under the incorrect assumption that whey was soy. I'm relieved to find out its from cow milk.0

Yes stay away from ANYTHING with soy protein in it. Soy has been over-hyped as a good food, when in reality it's garbage. It wreaks havoc with hormones, and just can't compare to good old animal protein when it comes to low carb and regulating hormones (which is what you need with a thyroid condition).
Read all packages carefully as well, you'll find soy protein has crept into all kinds of things:
Protein shakes
Sausage
Kielbasa
Meal replacement bars (even some low carb bars)
Dressings/Mayo
Sauces
It's staggering actually how much soy we take in these days without realizing it. When my wife was told to stay away due to hypothyroidism we started looking at all packages and had to stop buying a TON of brands of foods because of this.0 -
If you have a Smoothie King in your area they have an excellent protein shake called "Gladiator". You can buy the jug of powder right in the store. 2 scoops= 1 carb !! and even better 45 grams of protein. It really does taste great and I even add 1/4 cup of Almond Milk for extra smooth and flavor. And it is whey.
And yes, Soy is NOT what the body needs.0
