My first half is in about a month and a half. I am sooo excited, but being the detail-oriented control freak that I am, I need all of the tips and motivation that I can get! I also love to share experiences and good/bad training days. I am looking for friends so that I can fully utilize myfitnesspal for support! Anyone? Don't make me beg. :)

I've done a few half marathons, and I gotta say -- they become addicting!

I don't have any advice you probably haven't already heard... but here it goes:

Make sure you are hydrated well before the race (especially this time of year). Drink plenty of water the day before the race and after.

Don't wear/eat/do anything that you have not done during your training period.

If you have any clothing that is a mild irritation before the race starts, fix it immediately. A minor irritant can become a major pain by mile 10.

And don't be afraid to take walk breaks if you need them. Sometimes just 30 to 60 seconds of walking can really help to get you going again.

And most importantly -- Have fun!! :flowerforyou:
  • Thank you for all of that advice! Even if there are things that I have heard, it's always good to hear them again! It shows the thigns that I should REALLY focus on! I'm at 10 miles now and I've noticed how factors can really make a difference in my time and how I feel during and after my run. I have been trying some different types of clothing (all dri fit) to see what is the most comfortable. Any specific tips? It is hard to try everything since good running clothes aren't usually cheap. I seem to have a bigger problem w/ comfortable bottoms than w/ shirts.

I can already see this becoming addicting! My stretch goal is to run a full marathon, but I am going one step at a time!
