Wow.... nice problem to have, right???
Yesterday was the end of week two for me eating Paleo and I now start week three. I have lost a few pounds and am feeling pretty good, so I am pretty excited. here's something I am noticing:
During the first week to week and a half, I was pretty much hungry all of the time. I guess my body wanted to know where all the carbs were until it finally figured out that it had all this fat to use. Well, now when i go to eat, I get through a few bites and all of a sudden I feel full. I'm just not hungry. I know I need the fuel so here's the question:
I have read that the eating pattern of Paleo should be about gorging (for lack of a better word) and fasting. It's contrary to the conventional wisdom of "grazing" throughout the day, eating several small meals. I kind of like the idea of gorging and fasting, but I have to force myself to gorge because I'm not hunrgy.
Any thoughts on this? I know a lot of you are going to stay do what's comfortable, but really, what's best? I am comfortable with making myself eat..... believe me!!! So what's best?

I *feel* like it's better to eat consistently on a daily basis, but I don't know for a fact. I'm interested to read what others have to say.0

One of the main exhortations we always hear from the gurus of the primal/paleo lifestyle is: Listen To Your Body.
Basically - eat when you are hungry, stop when you aren't.
People trying to lose weight should maintain a calorie deficit, otherwise....listen to your body.0 -
exactly what monkeydharma says. Do NOT gorge (unless you want to
But also, feel free to skip lunch and breakfast if you are not hungry.
I can't do that more than a couple times if I am working out heavy (plus I need to get enough protein).
But don't feel guilty if you skip a meal - your body won't go into starvation mode until the fat is gone.
I think you summed it up just right, your body needed to relearn to burn the fat rather than expect sugars.0 -
I'm just reading Paleo and trying to ease into, but I eliminated most grains about 3 weeks ago, therefore limited carbs overall. My weight loss is great but most of all I'm so exciting to not be a slave to hunger all the time. I was getting so frustrating on the calorie restriction and mostly carb diet. I was starving all the time! Looking forward to incorporating more Paleo . . .0

I haven't felt ravenous hunger since elimating grains and dairy 6 days ago. I have felt "hunger" of sorts... But it hasn't even approached the nausea-inducing hunger I would feel before starting to eat this way. I also haven't been hitting my 4pm wall either - I think my blood sugar levels must be more stabilized now that I'm not filling up on processed carbs and am instead choosing veggies, fruit, nuts and seeds. I thought for the longest time that I was starving hungry in the mornings because I reliably eat breakfast EVERY day - but I've even been waking up without that feeling. Add to this whole thing that I think I have an undiagnosed gluten and/or dairy intolerance, I have NEVER felt better!
I also only eat when I feel "hungry", except I do make sure I have breakfast every morning regardless.
Edited to add I have lost 2.4 pounds in 1 week after not seeing the scale budge in ages! :happy:0
