I met with a Dr. yesterday and we discussed my weight loss agenda. I am partially low carb and gluten free but struggling. He recommended products from Walden Farms (on the web), Nu Salt for seasoning and to use MCT oil (medium chain triglycerides for cooking. The products on Walden farms are zero calories, no sugar, gluten free, no carbs. They do use splenda in the sweet stuff so I am staying away from that it is not good for me. Nu Salt is better because it is carbonized (lots of potassium), and MCT oil is also good because it does not turn to fat. By the way Coconut oil is 65% MCT so, that is why it works for us Hypo people. I will let you know how these things work for me if you are interested. I am doing a little shopping at lunch time. If anyone has used these products let me know what you liked best and what to stay away from

Walden Farms is VERY hit or miss. Some of their stuff is decent and some of it is HORRIBLE.
I can't comment on Nu Salt, never heard of it before now.
As far as MCT oils, they are great for weight loss, coconut oil being one of the best types of oils to cook with (though still expensive). Hopefully prices come down over time as the coconut oil industry spins back up after basically being destroyed by the vegtable oil pushers. Don't count out other natural oils as well, such as beef tallow and pork lard. Try to find ones that are not hydrogenated as this makes them on par with vegtable oils for unhealthiness.0 -
Thanks for the input, I just bought one of the salad dressings at the store to try before I bought online. It seems okay but, not what I was hoping for. I heard the peanut butter wasn't very good and I avoid splenda as well. At least for dressings and possibly the mayo might be fine for me.0

I use the Honey Mustard and Ranch salad dressings from Waldon Farms - I love them and zero calories is hard to beat!
Nu is a good company - I use Nu Stevia -- I get the powdered concentrate -- 1/4 to 1/2 tsp is very sweet -- as sweet as 2-3 teaspoons of sugar or say 2 packets of Sweet N' Low.
If you are looking for protein shake or protein bars - Vega One/Vega Sport is pretty good - gluten/dairy/soy free. Whole foods carries it.
Gluten free is hard -- but the craving for bread, etc. passes -- I fill myself up with humongous salads :-)0 -

Hi,
I just heard about MCT today, when I picked up my v. coconut oil. I didn't know enough about it to get it instead of the oil. Will have to research that now!
I don't care for salt sub... or Stevia...0
