we have an old art house theatre here in Chicago and I remember going to see the original Nosferatu - they had an organist playing for the showing - it was awesome0

I'm saying yes to all, it's such a big list that I hope I haven't missed these but I would like to add some later but certainly classics;
Les Diaboliques (1955)
The Plague of Zombies (1966)
Fright (1971)
What Have they Done To Your Daughters? (1974)
The Bird with the Crystal Plumage (1970)
Asylum (1972)
The Vault of Horror (1973)
The Devil Rides Out (1968)
The House That Dripped Blood (1971)
Dr. Terror's House of Horrors (1965)
Tales from the Crypt (1972)
Bunny Lake Is Missing (1965)
Don't Look Now (1973)
And Soon the Darkness (1970)
Profondo Rosso (1975)
Eyes Without a Face (1960)
The Nanny (1965)
Vampyr (1932)
The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920)
and I actually prefer Polanski's The Tenant
The first film that comes to mind if someone asks me my favourite classic horror my first choice would be Dead of Night which you mentioned. Also Village of the Damned mainly because I love the books of John Wyndham.
Also - maybe we should make a rule that unless we say it's a remake we mean the original? I don't know about you guys but I'm beginning to resent having to clarify which I mean when it's between the original amazing version and a lame cash in later on.0 -
Oh god, so many I love:
The Uninvited ('44)
The Innocents
The Haunting
The Cabinet of Dr Caligari
The Ghost and Mrs Muir (not horror but brilliant anyway)
Carnival of Souls
Night of the Demon
Creature from the Black Lagoon0 -

Yeah I think the "The Ghost and Mrs Muir " needs a reclassification, a haunted romance maybe? It is a top film though. Love The Innocents too.0 -

It's easily done! I started a board on pintrest to remind me, so many good ones, ah the good old days. I'm just discovering more and more, I buy an awful lot of dvds! Just discovered Fright (1971) recently and would recommend it, old slasher, I believe it's considered the first to have the whole babysitter plot.0 -

LOL I know right it's amazing how many classic horror movies there are. I'll have to check that one out!0 -
There was a horror movie I wanna say made in the late 70'S (could be early 80's) where a killer jumps up on the hood of a car blasts the people inside with a shotgun and blood squirts everywhere I can't think of the name of it, does anyone know?0

It isn't ringing any bells at the moment. Do you have any other details? Even things that might not seem important. actors or if the actors looked like anyone else, language, country, location, music, other little details?
Although I suppose someone else might just know it and I'm being rubbish.0 -

Honestly I cant remember any other details I know its american made and late 70's possibly early 80's and I think the car may have been orange but I honestly can't remember much else and its driving me up an effing wall that I cant remember haha0 -
I remember one from when I was a kid. Not sure when it was made. Basically, there is this killer, uses a shotgun IIRC, and went around and at the first victim spray painted "The First" on the door, opens it and blasts the victim away. Goes on to the nest victim and sprays "The second" and does the same. I think there were a total of 5 victims maybe? Does that ring a bell?

ffs! Is nothing sacred. I'm absolutely fed up of remakes, either of old classic or cult horror, or of current foreign horror. Surely there must me some new ideas out there?!0
