Run #27

In a few minutes I'll be leaving work for a run - my last run of C25K... #27. It's been an interesting two months. I had not been involved in any regular exercise for over a decade. I really struggled to make it through the first week, and every Friday for the first few weeks I was very worried about whether or not I could handle the next week's load.
After my very first run I had pain in my left knee - something I had never experienced before. I kept running, and my knee kept hurting and swelling up. I eventually went to the doctor and was told it was runner's knee and to keep on running (and do some additional exercises to strengthen my quads). Around week 5, I developed a sharp pain in my ankle after my runs. I bought an ACE bandage and kept on running. For nine straight weeks, I have not missed a single run.
Fortunately, all of the pain has subsided (although my ankle is still a little swollen). I honestly think the turning point in this little journey was that first 20 (consecutive) minute run. I had convinced myself that I wouldn't be able to do it - that it was too much, too soon. And then I went out and did it. I would be lying if I said I never came close to quitting. In fact, in every single one of my 26 runs up to this point I've wanted to call it quits before I was finished.
Today I will leave work and go run for 30 minutes without stopping. I'm sure a lot of people wouldn't view that as much of an accomplishment, but it means the world to me. And all it took was an unwillingness to break a promise I made to myself. No matter how much I wanted to, I refused to allow myself to quit. And now, for the 27th time, I will go be miserable and spend 30 minutes convincing myself that it's worth it.
Because it is.
Good luck to all of you and see you out there!!

Amazing story & accomplishment opus! We all know it's not easy as one thinks and takes much effort and dedication. You're doing great! I hope that 5k run will become less miserable and more fun for you...I'm sure it will:) And take care of your injuries! I'm nursing one right now (not running related) and I'm bummed about taking a forced break but can't wait to get back into it...
thanks for the inspiration & see you out there too:flowerforyou:0
