Foods to avoid

Friends,
Just a reminder that there are some foods we should avoid as they can cause thyroid goiters... if you thyroid is removed, please disregard this post. As for any of the fruits/veggies that are cruciferous -- if you cook it, you can eat it.. just not raw.

I feel the most strongly about soy and soy products -- I was so much worse when I was eating soy. I do eat strawberries and peaches -- just not frequently. I think the key to most of these foods is to cook it or eat it only occasionally.

thanks for posting the list.
i used to eat soy for all my protein (and a few legumes). i was a vegan, and during this time, i became hypothyroid.
i try to avoid soy and raw goits, just like you mentioned.

good to know. I already have a goiter. My dr.s never mentioned anything about certain foods. Ridiculous! I have had it for probably as long as I have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism...which is 18 years. Had it biopsied as well because it causes me pain once in awhile. Everything was okay though.0

Here's a question - I don't have a thyroid, therefore I can't get goiter. So, what's the verdict on goitrogens in that case? Are they fine to freely consume would they still mess with the absorption of medication or anything? If that means anything, I take levothyroxine.
I reintroduced soy about two months ago, with that thought in my head. I haven't had my levels tested since, but I didn't notice any significant change in my energy level this far, at least not of the kind that can't be attributed to school finals.0 -
