Making it work with small children...

I often find myself running out of energy for eating healthy and exercising when the kids are in bed, and the house is finally cleaned up after dinner, lunches packed etc.
I have triplets 2½ years old, and I get up every morning at 5 a.m. to get to work an hour away. I bike back and forth to the train stations (bring the bike with me on the train), and that's all the exercise I get. I'm seated by a desk most of the day. When I come home I have to pick up the kids, prepare dinner, bathe them etc. so there is very little time for myself.
Does anyone face the same situation -and what do you do about it?
I go to bed around 9-10 pm every night, and I'm exhausted. Luckily my husband drops of the kids every morning, but I need to leave early to get to work -so there's no time to exercise in the morning (besides biking).
So from "myfitnesspal" I hope to track the little exercise I do get and achieve an overview of what I actually put in my mouth during the day...(often mindlessly). Along with supporting each other with encouragement and tips, I hope to reach my goal together with all of you :-)

My story is somewhat similar to yours!!!
My daughter (just one- God bless you with TRIPLETS!) attends a full time pre-school, and starts Kindergarten this year so I spend countless hours with letters, numbers, sounds, colors, and manners. This is all around my full time job, which starts at 6:30 am. By the time I wake up, (I have gotten into a wonderful routine of waking up at 4:15- because this is the only ‘me’ time that is open in my schedule!) get in a 30-40 minute wake up cardio, clean myself up, put in my 8 hours at the office (I recently began utilizing my lunches for a second 30 minute activity, because I am lucky enough to have a few workout machines tucked in a back room at the office, either stationary bike, elliptical, treadmill, or just an outside stroll) then it’s picking up the young one, home to stimulate her active little brain while cooking dinner and picking up the house. Dinner is generally the 1st time I sit down after leaving work at 3:30, lol and I am usually still in my work heels!
After dinner straight to showers and baths, flossing and brushing, bed time stories and by the time my daughter is in bed around 8:30- I AM READY TO COLLAPSE! It seems nearly impossible to fit anything else into a schedule that is already 120% jam packed! My husband also works full time, and goes to school full time at night so I don’t know where the time goes sometimes! Last night I looked up at the clock and realized it was 9pm and my little munchkin was still contently coloring me activity pages with my name scribbled all over them I think the only way to begin change is to just start small. I am a victim of late night snacking (one of my many food vices) so that is why I decided- no matter how famished- for the next two weeks I will push myself to complete my 100 jumping jacks and 30 crunches each night. I realize that I am more physically stimulated the 1st half of the day, and then more mentally stimulated in the evening hours, so I thought that maybe this small challenge of throwing in a little consistence evening movement (even if it is just a little) might be a nice change.
I am really glad you joined the group and we can all figure out ways to fit in what we need to each day, because we all deserve to feel our best!0 -
Thank you Holly for your input! I wish I had the willpower to get up at 4:15 am and get a workout in before I have to leave for work. But I'm so tired and find myself snoozing until I have to rush to get ready. This is of course because I don't get to bed until 10-11 pm -after I'm done with a routine much like yours.
My lunch break is only 30 minutes, so there is no time to exercise if I want to get some food in me ;-) But I'm guilty of sitting down with my own dinner (way too late) in front of the TV when everyone has eaten, kids are finally in bed, the laundry is done, the house is cleaned up etc.
My perfect time to exercise would be 10-11 am -here I'm energetic, awake and not run down yet -but I'm at work... ;-)
Well, if there's a will there's a way, and I hope we can find it together.0
