When you know you've blown it that day, do you go out big?

Yesterday was great all day. I was enjoying my food, staying on my numbers without feeling restricted at all and even got a little bit of exercise to "earn a few" more junk treats than I normally even want. We have a tropical storm hitting us, so I only got in 5 minutes on the bike before the rains returned, but I did some extra in-house.

So last night after my husband made a run to the grocer for the buns, I knew it could be tough. He brought back Wheat Thins - which are of the devil if you ask me...ha!! - and peanut butter MandMs!! It takes soooo little of those to be in big time trouble if you are right at your numbers.

Once I realized I had eaten more than I could recover with some extra exercise, I just gave in and went out big....

My goal every day is to stay in the green and if I eat a bit more than I expected I make sure I burn it off with extra exercise that day. It just seemed impossible at that late hour to burn off that number of calories (and my hubby was already asleep, which is my fave way to burn off extra calories in the late night...lol)

What would have done? go out big, or keep it as little over as possible?

Catherine

it's really too bad MFP doesn't have an estimate for that kind of late night burn, right?? lol.

i try to rein it in as much as i can. no going out big for me. but i'm also not bothered if i'm in the red. if i go beyond my cut value, i just try to stay within TDEE. if i go beyond TDEE, oh well, tomorrow is a new day.

It depends. If I'm emotional for one reason or another and I really feel yucky then I end up blowing it big and don't even log the rest of the day. Thankfully, that's only happened probably 3 or 4 times since starting my journey. That being said, I've had other days where I know I've not done well. I log it as soon as possible. And to my surprise I often find that it's not as bad as I think it is. Many times, even if I end up in the red, I'm still within TDEE, so I can go to bed knowing that I might even still see a loss. If it's super close to TDEE then I know it's possible I maintained or even gained. Some days after such indulgences I wake up 3 pounds heavier. I know not to flip out because it's usually water gain associated with all of the sodium that most splurges include. So I work hard the next day and usually drop back down close to where I was. I've had a few days where it was over TDEE. On those days I just go to bed and start fresh the next day! That's probably much more answer than you wanted...lol!

Thanks for your replies :) I'm trying to keep my motivation, but it can be challenging. Especially when I'm sooooo dang hungry!! Then I blow it with peanut butter M & Ms (they are evil, they truly are...lol)

    Thx, again :)
