At what point do you spend money on this new habit?

I started C25K yesterday. After nearly 40 years of being told I'm not athletic, I've got bad knees, a bad back and that running is really bad for your joints I thought enough was enough: I want to be a runner!

Tomorrow is day 2 and I'm nervous as I felt like a complete and utter numpty when I went out jogging yesterday.

I don't have any running gear so yesterday I went out in my hiking gear (combat trousers, Berghaus T-shirt, aerobics cross trainers). Is this daft? Do I look silly? Thing is, I'm in the process of losing weight so don't want to buy any new clothes until I'm one dress size down.

The trainers seemed fine. I've been seeing a podiatrist for my joint problems and she said the trainers (Nike) were sturdy enough with my orthotics for light runs until I decide if running works for me. I also had no aches and pains today (hurrah!).

At what point do you go out an buy new clothes? What do you wear? Just jog pants and T-shirt? How thin do you have to be to get away with those running leggings (love the look of them but think I'm pushing it size wise to wear them)?

Or am I just fretting too much?!!

I just started today and the only thing I've bought was my running shoes. I wanted good ones with good support because of prior injuries and I've never been a runner. They were $77. Other than that...I'm going to use what I have! I'm just going to sweat in it anyway, so why get fancy?

As long as you're comfortable, that's what matters. The only thing that is super important is a pair of sneakers that fit you.

I wear a fitted tank top and shorts. Not fancy at all. If you like the leggings for support, by all means buy a pair (I'm sure you will not look silly!!) but they are going to be on the expensive side :)

You've got to laugh - I want to get fit so I can wear more fitted clothes without jiggly bits... but fear of people seeing those jiggly bits while I'm overweight is putting me off exercising in public! I'm going to set my alarm clock early tomorrow so I can get out early before anyone else is up!

That's exactly why I got up at 5 am this morning and will continue to get up at 5 am to run! Fewer people to see me! :)

I've got way to many jiggly parts to worry about new clothes, but I just finished w1d3 for the 3rd time and feel good other than a sore knee. So I splurged on a heart rate monitor that also counts calories burned since between this site and the c25k site the calories burned are all over the map. Oh ya the elliptical at work doesn't agree with either of them. I think treating yourself is a good motivator. Especially if you set a goal like once I lose 5 more pounds I will get myself a nice.......
