Day 2... and I was rubbish!

Monday was Day 1 and as a first time jogger I amazed myself by completing it all as prescribed and burning 430 calories (I added extra cooling down brisk walking on to the end of the route).

Today I followed a route of similar length (admittedly a couple of small hills in there, which I didn't do on the first day) and was absolutely rubbish. I couldn't complete one of the 60 second jogs in the middle, felt like I was going to flake out and only burned 321 calories. Grrrrrrr!!!!

Really disappointed as thought after Day 1 that maybe, just maybe, I could be a runner! Got to get a positive mental attitude going before I tackle Day 3 on Friday!

You've just hit a bad day. They can be discouraging if you let it. I get those but try to not let it dishearten me. Just accept it was a bad day and that the next time you run will be better.

I'm not sure what time zone you're in... It says you posted this at 5:00 AM EST. Did you give yourself a full day of rest? That's really, really important

Aw, thanks Strawberry. I'm just such a quitter, which is why my fitness is in such bad shape, and I really don't want to have any excuses to quit.

Secret Lobster, if only I was up at 5am to work out! I'm in England so went for my run at 10am following a full day of rest. Off work at the moment so going to have to set my alarm clock early next week to get the runs in in the morning.

Didn't help today that I was all ready to set off, outside my apartment block... then the C25K app on my phone refused to work (worked fine on Monday). Had to go back upstairs and download a podcast of C25K on to my old and clunky iPod before I could get going again. Maybe it put me off my stride?

Which apps do you use? Do you use your phone or an iPod?

First of all.. ONLY 321 calories?? :)

You can come back to the program on Friday. As strawberry says, everyone has off-days. It doesn't mean you're doomed - The fact that you completed day 1 means that you have it in you to succeed again!

I use my Android phone, with the C25K app by coolrunning (well, right now it's Bridge to 10K but it's the same idea). Then I create a playlist from about 100 songs I find really motivating to work out to, and it guides you though the run/walk transitions similar to your podcast I'm sure... The big difference is that I get my own music. I've tried a C25K podcast by Robert Ullrey and while it was a good podcast, for the whole 20 minutes it was the same dull techno song.

I'm not sure which app you use - Is it the one by coolrunning or rundouble? Coolrunning cost me about $2 and was well worth it. Never crashed or had any problems whatsoever.

I also use the Sports Tracker app (www.sports-tracker.com) to map my run and give me awesome stats!

I downloaded sports tracker today (usually use runtastic) but one feature sports tracker has that I haven't found on any other, is you can choose for it to stop monitoring if you go below a certain speed.
I wanted to put mine on today for my w5d3 run, but didn't notice I hadn't pressed start grrr... But nevermind. I'm going to go for a free run without the app and use it then, that way I'm only remembering to use 1 app. :)

Just wanted to add, one feature sports tracker doesn't have, is to tell you your total elevation during your run (I don't think it does anyway) which runtastic does. It isn't a huge deal, its just because where I run is hilly I like to see how far up and down I had to run.

LOL I did that the first time I used it too. I thought hitting "start new workout" and then "continue" was enough but noooo... :)

If you go to the workout overview tab on your latest workout, right over the map it says "ascent/descent" ... that is probably the number you're looking for. Descent is a significant number too
