It is very important that in your journey to a healthier lifestyle that you create meals that meet YOUR needs. Make healthy choices but most importantly make sure that you enjoy what you are eating. For example, if you don't like broccoli, then don’t eat it. The majority of your lifestyle change and your progress is going to be what you eat, so make it count and make it last the rest of your life. Having 6 meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner and 3 snacks in between) a day play a huge role in controlling your portions and keeping your metabolism working for you. Here is a very good slide show of 100 calorie snack suggestions.

Also taking the time to eat your meal is essential to ensure you don't consume too many calories and over work your metabolism. It takes about 20-30 minutes for your body to breakdown food and turn it into adequate energy, provide nutrients, repair your body, etc. So if you consume too much food (ie, calories) too quick, then by the time your body realizes it has too much food, it will be too late and you will be left with excess calories in your system.
