I want to start lifting, but can't afford a second gym membership (I have one at Curves, which has resistance strength training on the machines, but no lifting) or expensive weights. Hopefully someone will chime in with some info to help us both :)

I use Chalean Extreme, from beachbody.com. She does heavy lifting at a slow pace. you don't need weights though, you can use bands as well. Some people use Cathe or the book New Rules for Lifting for Women (I think that's the title!). I have only done dvd's though. There is also lifting in Power 90 and Slim in 6 (both beachbody.com again), though they have cardio workouts incorporated in the plan. I love ChaLean Extreme and have done it 2x before. this time I'm focusing on upping my weights a lot and really watching protein. I'm only on day 5 of EM2LW though! Hope that helps some:)

If it is possible I would give up curves for a reg gym membrship and get going with New Rules. It is a structured program for a beginner.:flowerforyou:

Hi there, welcome...I am accepting friends just know I don't get to comment too much...

Anyway, are you planning to workout at home or get a membership? If you can go to the gym a good starting program is New Rules. I'm doing the Cathe STS program which is pretty rigorous but anyone can do it, just start with weights you can manage.

    Hi and welcome!!!
If I were you I would either join a regular gym with heavy weight equipment (the "guy" section, lol) and possibly set up a.meeting with a trainer.to.show you how to properly do some of the exercises. Alternately, you could start investing in some good home equipment. As Lucia mentioned, Cathe Friedrich has done great videos for demonstrating property firm. STS is worth its weight in gold, but it its definitely an investment. She does have some other, cheaper videos if you are just starting out, like body Max and.muscle Max. You can do quite a but with done basic equipment like a weight bench, barbell and adjustable dumbbells. I live having equipment at home. With being a busy Mom with 5 little ones, it is much more convenient to work out at home at my convenience, but you may find it works better to join a gym. Hope you find a solution that works for you. Feel free to send me a FR!

I don't have a gym around here I am way in the boonies. so I would have to work out at home. I do have the book cruise moves that does strength training would that be a more doable option?

Ive not heard of that book.
I am in the boonies as well, that's why I love working out at home. I'd highly recommend the book New Rules of Li fting for Women.
