Find yourself a Southern guy. We're pretty awesome, but there are some tools in the sheds down here.

I lived in AZ, TX, NC, OH, and MI all in the last 13 years and don't really think it's different except perhaps at the surface level. Guys in the south where I am now tend to be more polite in conversation but don't REALLY treat you any differently. That's really about the only difference I've noticed.

Maybe I need to move to Alaska... they might help me warm up ;)

From my travels I tend to agree completely. I don't think women are treated any different no matter where you go, but different regions of the country certainly have different expectations and a lot of men will try to keep up apperances to meet expectations. But that's true in almost all aspects, not just how women are treated. West coast is more laid back, the south is more proper and chivalrous, the plains states are overly nice and polite, the north east is more direct and assertive. Blah blah blah. Ehh, it all seems to melt away once you're away from judging eyes.

Every state has a different culture. I am not a fan of southern guys at all, I find most close minded when it comes to things like religion and politics.

True born here, deeply religious people, yeah.

    I'm from Vermont. I'm a transplant.

I am from Alabama and there are some great men here. But as with everywhere, there are some who arent worth your time. I guess it just depends on what you consider respectful behavior. Some of what we consider the most disrepsectful here may make these men seem like gems elsewhere.

I agree. Southern guys are yummy!!!!

    FYI, Texas isn't South.

Don't tell a native Texan that. We consider ourselves very Southern.

Well that makes me think - have I thought guys treated me well when in reality they treated me like crap but compared to worse crap I thought it was nice??? Because this guy now that's from Illinois does treat me nicer than any other guy and I'm mistakenly thinking it's because he really likes me and it's really just because he's a nice guy.

i'm from IL and i have to say that things in the midwest are just different!!! i noticed it as soon as i moved to the east coast. not saying that ALL midwesterners act the same way once they leave, but i have been told that i stand out from east coast girls.......

as for treating them better?? i think that's too much of a generalization. there are good and not so good men everywhere!
I'm curious since I have only lived in California. The guy I'm "seeing" (and NO this is NOT about him) made a comment that made me wonder......he said he can't stand how the guys here (CA) talk about women. He's from Illinois and he says the men here talk awful about us. And this is coming from a guy. Do men in other states really treat women better?

i had a very interesting experience with some texans when i worked in a NICU in delaware.

they were born and raised in texas, and moved to DE for a job. mom was preggo with twin girls. the father brought a jar of dirt from texas and wanted to toss it on the floor of the delivery room so that his girls would be " born on texas soil." they had texas flags and bumper stickers ( don't mess with texas) all of the cubby their girls were in. i mean TONS of texas stuff :-)

it was actually very cute!! i always thought texas sort of saw themselves as their own little countrywithin the USA ;-)

After living in Texas for six years, it is my opinion that most Texans don't even consider themselves part of the U.S.

Well, la_amazona was supposed to say something along the lines of "if it's not the South what is it..." but she didn't, and she ruined it. So it's a moot joke/comment now anyways.
