Shin spints

(Sp) Shin Splints

Grrr! Training has been going so well so far but yesterday when I ran my legs felt like lead I just couldnt lift them due to the tension in the shin area. As soon as I finished running I iced my shins for a couple of minutes, anyone got any ideas on how to prevent them occurring in the first place OR exercises to strengthen that area. When I had them two years ago my doctor told me to stop running which surely isn't the answer! Would love to hear your thoughts! Thanks
