High Normal TSH - no help from Doc

In April my TSH was above normal so my PCP increased my Levoxal. Recent blood test results:
T3 = 87 (Range 71-180)
TSH = 4.47 (Range 0.4 - 4.5)
T4 = 7.5 (Range 4.5 - 12.0)
I requested more thyroid meds because I am sooo close to being hypo. Doc will not increase and now has decided that I am trying to use thyroid meds as diet aid even though I still have hypo symptoms. She will only prescribe according to test results - not symptoms. I've been fighting hypo and correct meds for 20 years. I'm trying to break food habits that I developed for needed 'quick energy' when thyroid meds weren't resolving fatigue issues.
My weight is obese 2, I have elevated blood pressure and A1C 6.0, and my resting or morning blood sugar is between 110 and 125 depending on what time I take my levels. The doctor does not seem too concerned by any of these elevated readings because none are more than slightly high. She has not given me guidelines on calories or weight loss.
I’m looking for good sources of thyroid diets and information on thyroid supplements; please share your favorite sites.
If you live in the St. Louis area and know of a GOOD thyroid doctor, please share.
Thanks

Here's a group on Facebook that has posted a bunch of doctors thyroid patients recommend based on their own personal experiences. You might be able to find one in your area. Be sure to read the comments sections too, because there's a lot more listed.

Good luck! Everyone deserves a doctor who will actually listen to them.0 -
Hi There,
I would recommend finding a new Doctor. If you go to http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/how-to-find-a-good-doc/# you may be able to locate a Doctor in your area that will listen to you. This sight has a lot of information to help those that are Hypothyroid to understand what is going on.
I would say you need a good Endocrinologist that will check you for Hypothyroidism and your insulin levels and treat your symptoms and not just the labs.
This is a journey that's for sure. Not necessarily a short one, unless you are fortunate enough to find a good Doctor right off the bat. Good luck and well wishes/

Oh my I was frustrated and sick. I went to endo who 'thought' I had Hashimoto's but never tested. I found a new GP that is ND and MD - he ran all kinds of tests, changed my meds back to Armour. He has me on several suppliments and I've gone gluten free. I'm feeling much much better!
I have dumped the prevuios GP and will not return to endo. since he 'thought' instead of testing. My antibodies where at +3,000 and +2,000.
My thyroid levels are better, I feel better and am almost 100% pain free. I am starting to lose weight finally!0 -
For me to feel even the slightest bit better, TSH needs to be below 1.0.
are those t3 and t4 test the free T3 and free T4?
you should ask for those to be tested.
Please find a doc who treats on symptoms and not just TSH, TSH is not a thyroid hormone! And think about asking to switch to Armour or a desicated thyroid med. Alight bulb should go off in your head when a doctor says, "oh, your labs are all in the normal range" and yet you feel like crap, and have brain fog, your memory is not what it was, I could go on.
Thyroid Sexy on FB is very informative,,, and so is the book or website: stop the thyroid madness
Please become your own advocate and educate yourself on thyroid disease.
ask for a copy of your labs each time,,,
good luck, just know you are not alone in this struggle...some of us have found that one doctor quick, others have not.0
