Is this a good idea?

Hi everyone! I love this group.
Here is my concern. I am in week 2 day 3. There is a 5k run on July 14 that I really wanted to do. That means I'll only be at week 6 training. Not being officially graduated I'm nervous.
If I do this will I be setting myself up to fail?
Should I just do whatever training day of the program I am on for the race?
It will be hot and my kids will be there. I'm worried that I'll embarrass myself time wise.
Any thoughts would be appreciated. And please be brutally honest.
Thanks y'all.

How are you finding it so far, easy peasy? Hell on two legs? if it's easy peasy the jump on a week and see how that goes, if it's the other then running the 5k in 6 weeks may be too much - but you can always mix walking and running on the big day.

Great advice. I may just jump 2 days ahead and see if I can handle it. I am not "dying" at the pace I'm at now but a few times at the start of the runs I would not say its "easy peasy.". I tend to feel better the longer I run. I don't know why.
    Thanks again:flowerforyou:

I'm wondering the same thing about a 5K in my area. Except, it's not 6 weeks into the program. It's the 9th week when I'll be finishing the final push. I'm not worried about time. Just finishing will be a huge accomplishment.

I've only completed WKD1 and, yes, it was difficult, but I'd like to give myself some extra motivation.

When did others do their first 5K race?

I just completed week 5 day 1. I bumped up my training to see if I can do the 5k in 4 weeks. I'm nervous my time was 41min 11sec for 3.74 miles ( more than 5k). I walked when the app said to walk but I ran thru the cool down . At the halfway mark i Was Saying some pretty negative things to myself but I thanked God i had a few more weeks til the race.
The race is a walk/run but I'm nervous. My goal is to run the whole 5k without embarrassing myself or the children.

    Any thoughts from experienced runners?

I picked a 5K that is both a running and walking race so that way if I can walk if I need to. I don't want to kill myself. I do at least two weeks of every week so I am going slow. I am on week 5 and my first 5K will be in 9 weeks so I should be right on track with the pace I am following. I am not concerned about my time, I want to be able to run as much of the race as possible. The important thing to me is to finish.
