Hi!
I had stumbled upon a thread while stalking the boards and came across you guys.
I am a 37 yr old from NH battling a few medical maladies with the help of some amazing physicians that I not only see as patients, but I also work with them as a fellow staff member.

I have managed to drop 53lbs on my own through medical advice guiding me with a caloric restriction, carbohydrate restriction and learning about food sensitivities that I have so I have done an elimination of those foods.

Im am now about an almost 6-month plateaued individual. I have not let that get my spirits down at all, in fact I find it drives me to continue.

Im about to enter week seven of weights/strength training. Im waiting to be medically cleared to do full-body strength training/bar-bell use where I have very nasty heel-spurs that might rupture if I attempt. So, the Podiatry Dept I also review/work for, will meet with me soon and discuss what my options are there.

17+ years working in healthcare
15+ working as a chef - my background is working with real foods but specializing in dietary restrictions - thats where my healthcare background comes in handy!

I hit the gym 5 days per week for 60-75 minutes each session, I split my cardio in half: 15 minutes for warm up - hit the machines - last 15 minutes on cardio for cool down.

I have a personal trainer who will be revamping my workout in the next couple of weeks. Im trying to rigorously work hard (without injurying myself) and make sure I make every minute count!

I ran my numbers using Scooby's calculator (I cant help it, I keep hearing Scooby Dooby DOO! in my head!) -

BMR: 1873
TDEE: 2903
TDEE-15%: 2468

While I am probably mirroring alot of people's thoughts: HOLY CRAP, I NEED TO EAT THAT MUCH?, Im getting the 'logic'...

I know the caloric restriction is part of the problem Im having right now so this will be a welcomed change where I definitely get more hungry more often. Eating clean is important to me and thank goodness for my kitchen - and all the meats I just carved up - Gonna get my food porn going and get prepared!

I am going to be starting this tomorrow. I started having back problems a couple years ago which has sidelined me from karate. During my years of karate I could pretty much eat whatever I wanted, so I do know that a strong body burns enough calories to be able to handle it.

This year, because of weight gain, I have been trying (and failing miserably) to stick with first 1500 and then 1200 calories a day. I have not lost 1 pound, probably becuase the weekends get here and I go out to eat a lot with my husband and end up eating tons of food. In the past, when I was eating decent amounts of food during the week, I didn't do that on the weekends.

I'm looking forward to starting this. Add me as a friend if you want and we'll be able to see each other's results over this 4-8 week trial period. I'm committed to 4 weeks. I'm a little skeptical too, only because I worry I won't be able to lift heavy enough weights to build the muscle I need to burn off the 1700 calories I'm going to be eating.

I also just started and I have a lot to lose. I also eat clean and cook most of my food from scratch. Honestly, I have only raised cals to my BMR for now with no exercise. I am staying there for a week or two until my stomach stretches a bit more....clean food in this house means volume and at BMR, by the time dinner is done, I feel like I have to swallow repeatedly for about an hour to keep everything down lol! This will pass...sooner rather than later I hope....and then I can bump to my cut and add in the exercise. Yay!

I'll admit, I'm scared and maybe a little skeptical, but anything has to be better than going to bed starving....or waking up in the middle of the night starving....or waking up starving....or starving in between meals......of being cranky as hell because I am starving. That does not make me a nice wife or mother. The last two days of eating at BMR, I already am not cranky...sleeping better....if a bit bloated, but not too much so far.

You can add me too....I would love to have more EM2WL friends!

    Hey Cramer,

I've been doing this since Apr 19 2012 and while I slowly upped my calories I didn't really do my full cut calories until my birthday in May. But I was still not eating enough do to under estimating my TDEE (I am using my BMF to get a more accurate TDEE), so I just upped to my proper cut value 2 weeks ago.

I have pretty much maintained my weight, but I have lost inches!!! :drinker:

If you have any questions just give a shout out!!

Are we ok to start a personal thread for ourselves here, sort of like a "diary"... Im sitting here at work, feeling the soreness from my workout (the good kind of sore), had my protein shake this morning, had a small breakfast-sandwich, and I really do feel the hunger pangs of true hunger - Im really thinking this whole eating the TDEE-15% is what I should be following... plus I can use this as a 'tracker' per say for when I visit with the specialists that I see for my current medical issues...

Edit: I think the logging-in for this will help me keep the focus I need in place... I cant believe Im going to be eating more food.

Thank GOODNESS for a chest freezer filled with meats, a fridge filled with vegetables and fats, and my chef background.... We sure arent bored at home with what I make...
