What do you eat?

Just trying to get an idea for my 5k in 6 weeks....what do you eat before a long run? This run is at 6:30 at night, so I'll have all day to prep (and dred...LOL). But I've heard about carbo-loading, etc, but seeing as how this is only 3 miles, is that really necessary? I don't want to feel bogged down, but I want to be sure I have energy too! Any thoughts?

I run at about the same time on weeknights (6:30, 7pm). Here's what I eat when I perform really well at that time of day: Adequate carbs in the morning, in healthy forms - Bananas/fruit, maybe some whole grains, perhaps a protein shake with peanut butter and milk. Lunch will be a big salad with grilled chicken or steak. I also make sure to eat a small snack about an hour before the run, sometimes a larabar or KIND bar. Sometimes, only half of one. They have enough energy in them to get you going but aren't going to sit like a brick in your stomach.
You're right, 3.1 miles isn't the kind of distance where nutrition needs to be strongly considered... In my honest opinion, being properly hydrated throughout the day is more important than what you eat.
This is only me, other people may have different ways of doing it.0
