You guys are wonderful. Here's what I'm doing now:
I tweeted back and forth with the EM2WL account last week and made these recommended changes: macros to 35/35/30, 3 full-body strength workouts per week, change my 20-minutes cardio sessions to HIIT.
I'm starting that this week, amidst a work trip and a vacation this coming weekend.
Per the advice I got from you guys I am: 1, taking pictures (started Friday); 2, getting my thyroid checked again (tomorrow); 3, going to work on getting my protein from real food and not shakes (it'll take a couple weeks to get this down since I'm saving money for the two trips coming up this week and weekend, along with another trip next week! eek!)
I weighed Saturday morning and was 233. I weighed Sunday morning and was 235. I weighed this morning and was 238, haha. Ugh. But, I know that's water retention because we had pizza last night. Long day yesterday.
Here's hoping! I'll check back in a couple weeks from now! Thank you guys very much!!0 -
your action steps sound great. you'll do this Hang in there...0

I read this whole thread and I just wanted to throw something out there, your weight gain along with it all being in your middle area.. could you possibly be pregnant and not know it ? I don't mean to scare you, just wondering :flowerforyou:0

Hehe, thank you! I actually did think this might be possible when my pants kept getting tighter ... so I took a test. As far as I know, all is negative! Fingers crossed. May take another if the weight doesn't start to come off in the next couple of weeks. Just to make sure.0 -
Leigh, We're all rooting for you as you root for us. Keep us posted!!!0

Ever try the thyroid diet? There's books on it (like "The Thyroid Diet: Manage Your Metabolism for Lasting Weight Loss". Apparently VLCD have side affects that mimic hypothyroidism (not saying you don't have it, saying it probably made things much worse).

It's really hard to find information about what's best because well diagnosing thyroid problems seem relatively new and people still seem to be trying to figure it out. I sifted through some stuff and found some random guy with thyroid problems on youtube and there's a lot of people who claim they control thyroid problems with diet:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=04S5esiykwk
apparently lots of protein is very important, especially when exercising.
Also signed up for some dudes 'diet book' but random dudes thing to get what I thought would be a diet book and some of it seems kinda unsciency in places and I really really really don't like some of the things he says (*blank* makes you fat blanket statement is one of the topics, *this* fat is bad for you....so I won't list all the important benefits and reasons your body needs it...etc ) but there's some stuff in there that might help (at least he usually lists why he thinks the way he does and uses some logic and lists foods you should eat and lists studies etc).

^Also, I don't recommend doing the detoxes in that book...as I know nothing about them.0

To the people with thyroid questions: I had my thyroid tested again last week and got the results yesterday. Everything is in a normal range except the TSH - which I recently read doesn't even matter anyway ... haha. I'll get this thyroid thing figured out someday! For now, I'm on 50mcg of levothyroxine and am going to be tested again in a couple months. I mentioned to the nurse that I am still losing hair; she said my levels shouldn't affect that now and I may need to talk to a dermatologist? Maybe? *shrug* No, I haven't tried the thyroid diet, but I've read about it! Maybe I'll delve into that one day.
I've looked through my diary at the last 50 days and am SO not pleased at what I see. I'm super inconsistent with my calories. 1800 one day, 3100 another! Ouch. I haven't lose weight, I even saw 240 on the scale once. My close are super tight this morning and I've taken a one-week workout break and turned it into two. I've had deadline hell at work for the past two weeks and felt like I needed to give my body a break. I think this was a good decision, but I did not stick to my calories!
My goal for the next 50 days (ending Oct. 1) is to stick to my calories every.single.day. My light activity calorie level is 2150. Next week I plan on adding workouts back in. At the suggestion of whoever runs the EM2WL Twitter account, I'm going to do three full-body strength training workouts per week, plus two day of HIIT (probably added onto the end of two of my strength days). I think I should up my activity level to moderate with this workout plan AND STICK TO IT. Thoughts? I had also thought of just doing the three strength training days for four weeks or so, then adding the HIIT when/if I hit a plateau.
I saw a photo of myself from last weekend and almost cried. Even my face has gotten fatter! I feel so squishy and have an extra roll on my back, lol. I know I haven't been dedicated, I've enjoyed the freedom of eating more food way too much, but not seeing a drop on the scale during weeks where I've "been good" is really disheartening.
So ... here we go with a new plan! We shall see!0 -

My, oh my, you have been going through some real hell, haven't you? I don't know how you have managed to stick it out and many, many kudos to you for that!:drinker: :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: :drinker:
I admire the way you took the bull by the horns and contacted EM2WL and got yourself a "plan of action":flowerforyou:
As for me, I just went to Cut on Monday after a 6 week Reset. Like you, I have gained a TOTAL of 24 pounds ~ 8 when I started EM2WL at Cut, then another 16 on Reset.:noway: I also gained over 4 inches at some of my body parts.
I am only 5 foot even and I weigh 224 pounds~ 2 Rosies rolled into one!!
I Cut "early" because I was in so much pain (knees, back, even ankles) and couldn't MOVE!! I have MS and I was afraid of causing it to "Flare-up" and I absolutely did not want that.
Just since Monday, my pain is greatly decreased, I can BEND and go up and down steps with ease.
Anyway, I'm still rootin' for ya, doll and again, I'm so happy you're still here with us!! :flowerforyou:0 -
Leigh and Rosie!
I admire that you are still here and that you still believe in the process. Many others would (including me probably) would have thrown the towel, but you guys are sticking it out.
Leigh-I think it is great, that you have a plan on what to do. Consistency sure is important. Hit your protein levels-that is important too.
Rosie-I am glad your pain decreased, and I hope things will be better, when you start the cut.
Thinking about you guys!0 -
Rosie - it's nice to know we're not alone with these 20+ pound gains, right?! I've found a couple others who have similarly gained! Glad to hear your pain is decreasing with the cut. I friended you - if you need any advice or just want to talk, feel free to message me!
Noor - I've got all next week logged food and exercise-wise! I'm within a few grams of hitting my protein, so I think I should be good there. I'll just have to remind myself to stay consistent with this. It's sooooo easy to take these "extra calories" and eat, eat, eat!0
