I have been following it since I was diagnosed about 8 weeks ago. My FBS was 249 and my A1c was over 11. This morning my FBS was 118, and my endocrinologist expects I will be around 6 for A1c come next month when we test. I've lost 13 lbs (have 40+ to go. And while the dr did put me on crestor short term, I moved the numbers so dramatically and so quickly that she has not put me on metformin (though my GP wanted me to go on insulin until she saw how determined I was 48 hrs after diagnosis and decided to give the diet more time to continue working ... endocrinologist felt the same way.).
The book is stricter than a nutritionist or a doctor but it has been my safe place and really I am not arguing with success. I cook almost everything from scratch. I already didn't drink alcohol or smoke. And MFP friends have been as important as my husband as far as support goes. The tracking is INVALUABLE. Nutritionist and I added 1% milk and 2% yogurt to the advanced plan in the Blood Sugar solution, and agreed I would do 135 carbs a day which is the minimum, she explained, that the brain needs to function.
Happy to tell you anything you want to know about my experience with it.0 -
I never heard of it, so I looked it up.
It sounds like what I am doing now....what I got about 6 years ago from Oprah's Boot Camp. No white carbs. I am doing that for 30 days. The idea, as it was relayed to me from the boot camp is that you get addicted to those foods and you need to get rid of the cravings by going cold turkey. And it does work. Then after the 30 days, I start to SLOWLY add in some whole grain carbs....like a couple slices of my low carb wheat bread for a sandwich. And maybe the next day, a small bowl of oatmeal. Thats not to say I will never eat another white carb, but It will be a much rarer instance than what I was doing. I lost 40 pounds on boot camp (before I had diabetes) and I felt great! But I got complacent. This time, I cant be complacent. I want to get off my meds as well as lose the weight.0
