Hypothyroidism and Pregnancy

The hubby and I are reaching the point where we'd like to think about babies. I was diagnosed in June of last year with hypo and my levels steadied out in February. I'm just curious how long it took other ladies to get pregnant? Did you have to change your dosage? Was it viewed as high-risk because of the hypothyroidism? I haven't visited the doctor to discuss family planning with her. Would you? I'm 26 and lead a relatively healthy lifestyle and forgive the tmi, but have always had a regular cycle. Any advice/stories would be greatly appreciated!

I was diagnosed with hashimotos (cause of my severe hypothyrodism) last september 6 months after my 2nd daughter was born. I had TSH of 177 (yes i do mean 177 its not a typo lol) and i had no thyroxine in my blood at all. No wonder i had been feeling so crap.
By december the doctor had managed to get my TSH to 5.8 and i somehow managed to conceive my third daughter that month even though i wasnt within the normal range yet. My TSH shot up to 9 because of the pregnancy so the doctor increased my meds.

Im currently 29 weeks pregnant and my TSH is finally normal at 1.3 YAY. Im on 125 mcg of levothyroxine and i take vitamin b complex and vitamin d tablets too. I also eat atleast 5 brazil nuts a day (for the selenium) and have found it has really helped with my energy levels.

Im classed as high risk not sure if that is hypo related aswell as being because i had a c section last time. But i do have my thyroid levels checked every 6 weeks. and they like to keep my tsh below 2.

Make sure you go to the docs as soon as you find out your pregnant as most women need to have their meds increased while pregnant.

    Good luck :-)

I was diagnosed as hypo after I had my twins 23 years ago. Had two very normal pregnancies after that. No problems with my levels at all. It seemed like all we had to do was talk about it and I was pregnant!

I had a textbook pregnancy with hypothyroidism. My levels never had to be adjusted either... I may be the minority there though! I've always had a regular cycle too, and it took 1 month to become pregnant! They tested my levels every trimester and they stayed normal on the same dosage of meds even after pregnancy. I was not high-risk. I went in to discuss family planning and it wasn't a big deal to be hypo. They just gave me a "method" to become pregnant (as in how and when to try in my cycle). Good luck!

I was diagnosed with hypo 9 months PP with my first baby. Took me 2-3 months to get pregnant with #2, was not considered high risk because of that, and had to increase the dosage once while pg, because baby sucks up a lot of everything, as you may know!
