He put me on Amaryl so I can actually eat like a human again. He says if that doesn't work well he'll put me on insulin. He is concerned about me going hypo and since Amaryl lasts all day that may be a problem. He's thinking that a little basal insulin my be a better thing but we'll try this first.

Somewhere in the course of doing labs, they forgot to do my cholesterol. It was fine last time but I'm staying on statins as a prevention measure. I'll go in later this week to have them do that. Also, once I get the BG thing settled then he wants to put me on lisinopril to prevent kidney and heart problems. I have been diabetic for so long a lot of stuff is about preventing problems.

I lost 2 lbs since my last visit 3 months ago. He told me to up my cals to 1800, he thinks I don't eat enough and that's why I'm not losing any weight.

Went to the eye dr. last week and there's no damage.

My C-peptides are barely normal. My body isn't making much insulin any more which is actually a little odd for a T2. Usually the problem is resistance and many T2s actually make way more insulin than normal, just can't use it right. Now I guess I'll bug him about doing a Gad test to see if I have antibodies. If I do then I guess I'm LADA instead of T2 which means insulin is really the only thing that will help.

Wow that's a lot to handle all in one visit. Hang in there. I don't think any of us will ever eat like normal people ever again if that makes you feel better. I witnessed a co worker go through a lean pocket a pint of cherry tomatoes half a pint of blueberrys and god knows what else and all I could think was man that looked good. Not something I could do now.
Your not alone and maybe insulin is the answer you need have an open mind to it. Good luck and many blessings.

Hi Sharon - The Dr put me on a basal insulin about 4 months ago. On my visit one month ago, things did not look good at all so he cut out everything except the basal insulin, a little Amaryl, and a fast acting insulin for when I would go high. That was the moment I realized I needed to take this very seriously. Went back today and everything looks MUCH better. The nurses exact words were amazing that I was able to get my triglycerides down that much in 30 days. The insulin really did the trick for me. It gave me something that I could actually DO instead of just letting this thing take over my life. For me, the exercise is THE KEY. When I exercise I don't even need to use the fast acting insulin.

I know you had a bad Dr visit, but try not to let it get you down too much. Try to find something (even small) that you can do to help your situation. You need some small wins to get to the big ones.

    Hope this helps.

Actually, I'm glad he put me on more drugs. The only way my BG was sort of under control with just the met was to eat about 25 net carbs a day. I couldn't function so I went up to about 60 net carbs which blew my BG but I felt a little better. I also have been needing to burn 400 or 500 cals doing aerobics to keep my bg at a decent level. I'm very excited that things like quinoa, fruit, potatoes won't be completely taboo anymore. I can't see living life where you feel like eating cauliflower is your big splurge. I also don't mind insulin, I was on it when I was pregnant.

The dr. has been balking at putting me on more meds because he's afraid I'll go hypo. He also doesn't like the way I've been eating even though my A1C has been fine.

As with many things that go wrong with my body, nothing is very clear cut with my diabetes either. I was a relatively young, thin, and active person when diagnosed. They couldn't tell me to lose weight or exercise more to try to get my BG under control. They gave me 4 weeks to try with diet which barely touched it and then put me on met. I am currently at the higher side of normal weight for my body. My cholesterol has been fine for years, bp and pulse are of someone younger than me. If I didn't have thyroid issues and diabetes I would be extremely healthy.

The amaryl is making me feel a little dingy but they said that would probably happen for a week. I hope it works.

I am so happy that you will be ab le to eat healthier!!!!!!!! Originally I wasn't able to eat any carbs(before meds/insulin) and it was so bad to be starving my body for the sake of my BG! It bothered me that you were going through it!! I am so glad you can feed your body again!

I am getting the hang of adjusting how much fast acting insulin I need for each meal, depending on how many carbs and fat, I can up or down how much I need. I can keep from getting to low or high now. It is still a work in progress, but I am looking and feeling better than I ever have!
