Be Careful Out There! - Strained Quad

Oh the irony. I was thinking that my hamstrings and glutes weren't developing properly, possibly due to my squat form. Went back and re-read the squat chapter in SS last night. I was all gung ho to use the cues Rippetoe recommends to maintain form when I got to the gym today. Warmed up properly and then on the first rep of my second working set, just as I was coming out of the hole, I heard a dull tearing sound coming from the mid-part of my right quad. Dumped the weight on the pins, tidied up and went home. There was no way I could continue.

Waiting to see what I am dealing with but it appears I've strained, not torn, my quad. Looks like it'll be pullups and presses for the next little while.

The thing that ticked me off (here we go, pity party time) is that my 49 year-old body failed me even though I was concentrating on form and quite sure I wasn't doing anything so wrong that the quad would be strained. I was hitting below parallel but by no means could this body go *kitten* to the grass.

Any recommendations on what worked for you after you've injured yourself (in terms of "getting back on the horse") are appreciated.

Thanks!
Dave
