Getting a fitbit ultra tomorrow

So I have decided to get the FitBit and track my exercise burns with my HRM

I know few of you guys are having the FitBit as well and are happy with it, right?

Just didn't feel like splashing out on a BMF. I really just need to know where I am with my TDEE and I am anxious that it might be much higher than I think it is.

Will let you know how I am getting on with it

I feel it really hits my TDEE perfectly. Honestly not sure what to do with that info yet. It bumps up my calories on MFP which confuses me...I think it's calculating my TDEE for that particular day and adjusting it here. I think I'm supposed to cut 15% off of that number.

Otherwise I really like it. I LOVE the website and all the graphs and stuff. Also really forces me to get walking so I can get my 10000 steps in per day. I weight lift so it's pretty much useless for calories burned there, stick with the HRM.

Hey I have a fitbit and really enjoy the numbers from it, I hope to get a HRM for the cardio workouts I do but until then I can guestimate.. I enjoy it cause its not something in clear view or that sticks out so you have to answer questions about it.. and being a guy I don't really feel like talking about it to coworkers etc..

But With your fitbit adding calories, you need to go to the fitbit website and adjust your calories there so that it won't add tons of calories on MFP because the fitbit website also has a meal plan that you need to adjust but not track anything in.. that way it will only add calories if you are estimated to be over your TDEE (or entered calorie count)

I'm not sure how to do that :(
Also not sure if I should be set to sedentary or custom on Fitbit.

Edit: Nvm someone posted this question on forums today. I think I get it.

Love it! It's how I track my TDEE and figure out how many calories to eat. It also motivates me to walk more, which I definitely need!

I just ignore the fitbit adjustment and go with my intake.

I love mine too. I just look to the fitbit site to figure out what I'm burning and adding my HRM exercise. The adjustment on MFP just seems to be way off.

So do you have to logg all the food there again?

I don't have that much time

And how do you connect it with MFP?

I just got it and I am starting to play around with it. Any help appreciated :)

There is a fitbit group here on MFP that has a stickie that answers a lot of questions. They are also helpful in answering questions.

No, you don't have to double log. After you set up the fitbit and your fitbit account, you can come over here and sync with the fitbit website. Calories logged here will sync over there. It can be tricky with setting activity levels so you don't see a "fitbit adjustment" transfer over from there telling you to eat more. Or going there and it tells you that you have eaten too much. That's why I don't pay any attention to the fitbit adjustment and will delete it from the exercise log here if I'm having problems figuring my calories in/out here. I *think* I have finally gotten that fixed by setting my goal plan to easier (1/2 pound a week) as I am not seeing as many adjustments transfer over.

I also have a FitBit, it's nice to help track my cardo but I am now considering a HRM for my ST. Just remember - only log at one place (Fitbit or MFP) and remember to update your weight on the FitBit site once and awhile. I pulls your burnt cals based on the weight (or I'm hoping so) and if you keep it at a higher than your current, the numbers are probably off (I just remembered to adjust mine recently and noticed the same workout logged less now).

And to clarify, I use the adjustment for days that I'm not doing "dedicated" exercising - IE: gym, ST, walking. If I'm cleaning the house (and I clean very aggressively to the point of sweating) or such, then I rely on the FitBit input to gather that info.

Also, I'v noticed the FitBit input will change during the day - mine always starts the day with something but by the time I'm back at the house for it to sync again, it often disappears.

It's not perfect, but better than a standard Pedometer.
